Use the "bolt" as the center of your ponytail stub, and cover it tightly with wig fiber and adhesive caulk. Stub the ponytail above the bolt. Depending on the style, you may want a longer stub than the photos show (some were taken from the basic ponytail tutorial, no bolt / superstructure involved!)

While the result looks the same, the headband and bolt inside the wig make the "ninja" ponytail stub a lot more rigid and durable.
