ChilmarkGryphon COMPOUND CURVES WITH NO DARTS :D

Pieces are all craft foam sealed with Mod Podge. Mod Podge is definitely the best sealant I've tried over foam, mostly because it can be wet-sanded to a smooth finish. On the subject of sanding, craft foam can be sanded too, with 400 grit sandpaper. It's really helpful for cleaning up the cut edges.
The gorget and the underside of the main pauldron pieces have armature wire glued to the back to help them keep their shape. The pauldrons were shaped by heating a rectangular sheet of foam, then having a friend help me stretch it over a wig head (took a few tries: you have to pull the wrinkles out vertically rather than trying to smooth them horizontally).
The raised designs were cut from craft foam and attached with contact cement, which is my new preferred adhesive for this material.
Paint on the gorget is Jacquard Lumiere acrylics and PearlEx.
  • Lady Muramasa I friggin love craft foam. I think it is a cheaper way to get a realistic metal look. So true about the modge podge. This is looking great. 13 years ago
