AngelSamui “The Girl in the Fireplace” is one of my favorite episodes of Doctor Who. The acting is fabulous and there are so many stunning gowns to look at. I picked the first gown the Doctor sees the grown Madame de Pompadour (Reinette) wear.

I looked for ages for the perfect fabric but I wasn’t very lucky, even on the internet. I settled for a tan and teal fabric from JoAnn Fabrics. Let’s hear it for coupons saving me lots of money!

The pattern from the gown and the pocket hoops are from J.P. Ryan. The corset and chemise are from Simplicity 3635. What are fabulous about Ryan’s patterns are the functioning pockets. I was able to carry quite a few things around in my pocket hoops! I highly recommend making a padded petticoat from quilted cotton, as suggested by Ryan. You don’t have unsightly pocket hoop lines and you achieve a beautiful shape.

The bows are styled from tan lining fabric that was finished with pinking sheers and thick teal ribbon that has smaller cream ribbons glued on for the lines. The necklace is fashioned from lace, ribbon, and several types of beads. I was so distraught that I forgot to wear my jewelry for my first photo shoot. I was so excited about finally getting into the gown that I completely forgot!

Leonard totally knew where to find this fabulous setting for photos. The stone work is matching the colors so well it's blowing my mind!

  • bigkitty-chan Wow. you look amazing as Madame de Pompadour!!! This is so deja vu because I just finished a photoshoot as Lia de Beaumont. I think I even used the same corset and chemise pattern as you. (aren't the pockets awesome?) You did such an amazing job, and you look gorgeous. Wonderful work! 13 years ago
