Eibii Fun fact - in a pinch, craft foam can be moulded to hold fairly complex curves, and the shreddy edges can be sanded smooth. With adequate sealant and painting/antiquing, these managed to pass with most folk for metal, even up to a few feet away. People were suprised when I'd offer them to examine them by hand, and they'd find them soft and still a bit flexible. I love my *ahem*budget-friendly*ahem* costumes. *happysigh*

These buckles are based partially off what screenshots I could find of Mal's coat closures, and partially off the beautiful replica offered by Abbyshot - I'll hopefully have some pics of 'em on my coat coming pretty soon.

...okay, maybe not so ghetto after all. *blush* Danke, y'all.
  • stefaniecat Wow... craft foam... ... everything in costuming is 'smoke and mirrors' lol 18 years ago
  • reannaremick Haha, I'm just like Kairi G - I saw the thumbnail and went "MAL BUCKLES!" Hee. Awesome job, I think they turned out great. You should post a tutorial on how exactly you made them. ^_^ 18 years ago
  • Imriela Hey, cheap, easy, and durable does not equal "ghetto." It equals "skill." ^_^ Which you seem to have in spades, as these are really convincing! 18 years ago
  • Eleryth Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's ghetto! Those look great! I wish I could paint something to look convincingly like metal. Any tips? ;) 18 years ago
