Kikiama
Ellie was my favorite character, but constructing the costume was going too expensive between the over sized clothes (more fabric) and the materials for the fat suit... until I found a leather couch put out at a friend's apartment dumpster. The leather was worn, but the insides were pristine. Thus, the creation of the fat suit began.
The fat suit it self ran about $15 to $20 and the costume cost about $65 dollars, which included the tool belt's cost of $30 (I ran out of time to make my own. I plan on constructing one for Supercon 2013). I lost track of how many hours went into this costume, but it was at least 3 times what I expected. I also plan on reworking the overall straps and some details that the costume lost due to time constraints.
I do not consider this a "plus-sized" cosplay. This required a fat suit and massive alteration of my body, which is plus-size. I would chalk this up to an extreme cosplay because it required such extreme measures. The fat suit was made with good intentions and just wanting to do something different. I'd never heard or had seen anyone cosplay with a fat suit before, but I had worn them in theatre previously. I thought it would be a challenge and a change, and people who love Ellie, like me, would thoroughly enjoy the costume (and it seems they did!). In no way do I intend to offend anyone by any means. I just love the character and wanted to do my best to portray her.
