Padme Amidala

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Description

so, not too long ago, my friend wanted me to cosplay with her as a SW character. I did Princess Leia first, because it was easy (want to redo dress anyway) and now I'm working on one of my fav Padme outfits - the lake dress.

It was, at first, easier and harder than I expected. I bought Charmeuse silk to cut on the bias, so it would be like the movie dress.

Other Materials: 10-20 yards of silk chiffon (bought 20, we'lll see how much I use)
5 packs of satin blanket binding
5 yards of pale yellow lining material
5 flower buttons, painted white
glass and plastic beads and findings
8 packages of Rit Dye (so far)
mother of pear inlay from Ebay
craft foam
gold half circles to stick on hairbands
muslin for test dress (thank god I did this)
2 zippers, one for test, one for real
mother of pearl bead discs
Silk pins ($5!)
and probably some other stuff I can't remember right now.

After the near misses with Midna, I wanted to do this dress correctly, on the first time and not remake it ever again. Naturally, I'll probably want to remake it anyway (XD). In any case, I was determined to have correct bead/flower ornaments even though they're optional by Rebel Legion standards, and non-fabric headbands, as the hair bands Padme wears are flexicast, and not fabric at all. I see many other tutorials for cloth covered hair bands and it drives me a little nuts.

I also used the wrong pattern to begin with. Padawan's guide suggests using 3933 (simplicity?) as the base pattern. DO NOT USE THIS PATTERN. The dress does not have a train and there's no point in starting with a pattern that has a train. I'm currently using Simpicity 9891 for the base pattern and it's looking good so far.

Anyway, I should have updated photos around the end of July. I'm excited to see how this turns out!
