Seth Nightroad has been on my list of dream costume for 4 years. Finally I took the opportunity to work on it. I'm very happy with the way it came out and I'm super happy to finally finish!

I felt that since Seth is an Empress, she needs the presence. I decided to approach the costume a bit differently and try to understand why she looks so amazing in the art, but often doesn't translate very well in real life. I made certain decision to make the costume work.

First thing I decided right off the bat was to embroider all the details. Doing it through paints and ropes felt like it was taking away from the outfit. Some have done a fantastic job, but that extra touch really made the costume feel real. Also the amount of embroidery I've decided was going to be heavier than the art. The reason is that sometimes that costume can feel kind of flat without them.

Another thing that I wanted to make sure I did was the props will have to feel well decorated and cleanly put together. Often times I found that the breast plate was the hardest thing to get just right. So I researched different techniques that I would be able to achieve easily. I decided to use foam and the base came together really nicely and quickly. Also the amount and the type of details I wanted to put on the prop pieces was important. I wanted to utilize the space well. I wanted my pieces to be visually stimulating.

I wanted different texture to the costume too. So I added lots of lace on the train that really emphasized the pooling of it, even though it wasn't all that long, and I added sparkly beads that really catch the light when I move. I felt that even the smallest of details really brought up the quality of my costume.

The plan sounded good from the start, when I decided on them, but balancing them out was a little tricky. I'm glad I had the 2 months time I needed to step back and refocus when I needed to.
