Kapalaka as Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy

Batman

Bruce Timm

Cosplayer: Kapalaka
Poinson Ivy has always been a dream-costume of mine as a kid, and Dragon*Con 2012 is the perfect excuse to finally make her. I woke up early everyday to watch Batman: TAS on tv and especially enjoyed episodes featuring her.

The gloves:
These were the first gloves I ever made, and I am very proud of them. I found a pattern online and combined it with a drawing of her forearm spikes to get the right shape. They were hand-sewn first, then machined.

The bodice:
Super-ladies and villainesses always have itty-bitty waists, so I cinched my own by building a steel-boned corset with twill tape along the waist. I just used duck cloth instead of coutil, since two layers of duck cloth pretty much does what I need it to without the exorbitant cost. I then created a pattern based off of my new silohuette for the PVC suit. PVC is actually quite a pain to sew, even with a Teflon foot, so I just used tissue paper to keep it from sticking to the machine.

The wig:
I bought a base wig off of eBay and used hot rollers to curl the ends and achieve the 50s curl bangs. I looked at a lot of pin-up hair before I settled on how to translate her iconic cartoon bangs to reality.

The boots:
I made boot-covers and hot-glued them to thrift store shoes.

The tights were store-bought.
