This is my costume for the Michigan Renaissance Festival! My mom and I busted our butts to get this ready in time for it. It was supposed to be an x-mas gift last year but it just didn't happen then. So we tried really hard to get it done for this year's ren fest. The dress is a BEAST and super heavy. (my arms are so sore!) But I do love this dress in all of its big heavy wonder.

I used the Simplicity Pattern 2589. This pattern was not so simple...
So the uppermost layer of the gown is crushed green velvet. Then the underskirt is upholstery fabric and cotton. the sleeves are 2 different kinds of upholstery fabric.
Inner sleeve has the slash and pull style and is decorated with large pearl beads and gold bead caps. Buttons were WAY too expensive as I would have ended up spending $50 on buttons instead of $10 on beads and caps... So I spent a good 5 episodes of Doctor Who just sewing the sleeves by hand. (FYI all the beads on this dress were sewn on by hand)
I have a 5-hoop skirt and a poorly made petticoat on under the dress. (By the time I got to the petticoat I wanted to never look at my sewing machine again... n.n; )

For the amount of work that went into it I don't seem to have a lot to say about it. Ha ha ha!

More jewelry and embellishments will be added as my wallet allows. lol
