StarLi as Velvet

Velvet

Odin Sphere

Cosplayer: StarLi
Yay! I had this ready for A-kon 19. It was a lot of fun to wear, even if I fail at sexy and was cold the entire time. Velvet's nifty enough to wear it anyway, plus it's my first game cosplay.

However, one of the battery holders for the LED refused to work, so I wound up not having glowing psypher crystals like I originally intended. I'm replacing the faulty one for the next con.

My favorite part to wear of this entire costume is probably the mantilla and the hood. I don't know why, but having it on my head it makes me happy. The thing I hated doing the most are those stupid underboob pleats. I hate box pleats with a passion after pleating about 12' worth of little fabric strips I hate it even more. Then I had to do the sleeve puffs. But at least they look nice enough. Stupid pleats.

My least favorite parts are the lace on the mantilla and the hip wrap. I originally intended to use another lace entirely for it, but it didn't work out because it wouldn't turn black. I'm going to experiment in the near future. The hip wrap was a little rushed and I'd like to redo it sometime when I have the time. I didn't have time to tailor it correctly to get it to drape right, so it's a bit bulky. Whoops.

At Animefest 2008, the wig was improved, I replaced the faulty hardware in my psypher so that the crystals glowed and I had my Gwendolyn! Hurrah! I still need to improve the mantilla and hip wrap, though.
