Zoids: New Century Zero
DescriptionThis costume was inspired by an AMV I watched, as well as a huge number of videos that I saw of other people making costumes inspired by Walking with Dinosaurs Live. The skeleton of the thing is PVC piping with several struts reinforced for stability. The Base skin will be a black mesh with minimal detailing to keep weight down, and on top of that will be the Berserk fury's white armor.
Revised construction: I abandoned the black cloth mesh in favor of something that has structure. The PVC frame wasn't providing enough support to the body, and kept vibrating itself apart. The new body is built from the base of a wheeled garbage bin, cut down and heavily modified. The costume style is still walking with dinosaurs style. Vision comes from a gap between the fury pack and the torso, and a gap between the two. I have vision in all directions I turn, save for small blindspots where the torso holds up the fury pack. I can look straight down at my feet as well, and there's a small gap around the Fury's neck, so I can see directly along the fury's view if I wanted to.
Here's a video link of Fury in motion briefly. I didn't have the puppet system stringed in because of laziness for this video, but It does move
rbkaiser am still puzzled how you did your moving head... my saurer and breaker is only pull string jaws. lol btw "I have $1000 in my account right now. cost is 1380 so far... I'm probably looking at an additional 30$ just in tolls each way. then put aside 20$ a day for food. for another 100$ I don't have the 1500 dollars I need to get fury there. :/" i know the feeling. am from philippines, was planning to bring saurer to singapore for a big southeast asian event saurer's flight ticket is P75000! one way! $1800 me thinks? my tickets is $100 two ways *dies*
Write Knight So... I actually won't be able to afford getting this beast to Otakon :/ Hotel expense alone would be 300 dollars if I use something like motel 6. Haven't bought a ticket, so there's another 80. Truck rental is 40 a day, plus 80 cents a mile. 400-ish miles one way, 800 miles total. 750$-ish for transport. The rental truck gets about 10 miles/gallon highway, so I'm looking at 80 gallons of gas for another 250$ I have $1000 in my account right now. cost is 1380 so far... I'm probably looking at an additional 30$ just in tolls each way. then put aside 20$ a day for food. for another 100$ I don't have the 1500 dollars I need to get fury there. :/
Serotonin Seeing a Zoid cosplay - be it a 'human' character or a Zoid itself - is so rare, let alone one as wonderful as this! You did an amazing job! I'm especially impressed with the mechanics and how you seemed to have gotten it that exact, nostalgic shade of purple. I hope you do another one day!
shadowdragon13 This is awesome. Cosgrats on your awards. :D I'd love to ask for some tips on how you made this. I'm planning a genosaurer cosplay in the future and since they're both similar, why not ask you. XD
Giullare This is absolutely gorgeous, congratulations on the awards, you deserved them.
DarkCloudInc I can't wait to see a photo of you in it, at least before acksonL catches you in it, haha.
Write Knight Moved most of the Work in Progress shots out of the costume folder. They're just loose images amongst my other photos now. I figured it would be easier to appreciate the completed costume if you could FIND the completed pictures ^^
kitsuneheart Wow! It looks amazing! You did a wonderful job on Fury. =D Wish I could see his debut con. haha. I'm really tempted to try making my own zoid; my brother and I use to talk about doing just that when we were little.
