Haruhi Suzumiya

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Headband - a $1 bandanna from Walmart. It's not the exact shade I wanted but the one that I used to have (same bandanna, different dye lot) apparently got eaten by a family pet. =P Carefully folded and ironed to be as flat as possible.

Blazer - thrift store. The patch is from http://www.etsy.com/shop/anruiukimi - great seller! I made the mistake of asking for heat 'n bond on mine though. I tried to iron it onto the blazer and nearly melted my dry-clean-only blazer. 0.o

Pants - my favourite brown dress slacks.

Shirt - a white button-down shirt out of my closet.

Armband - I really should've taken in-progress photos.

Basically, I took a fat quarter of red quilters cotton and cut it in about half. I eyeballed it to figure how wide I'd want it. I planned on folding it in half and sewing it into a tube.

Then I cut a piece of interfacing the same size and ironed it down as well as I could. I sewed it up (right sides together), turned it right side out, and ironed it flat.

Then I used my friend's light table and a transparency sheet with the kanji on it to trace the kanji onto the armband with my Sakura Micron pens. (They sell a version of these marketed for quilters so I use my manga pens for both fabric and paper)

Afterwards, I looped it around my arm (with the blazer on) and gauged how long I wanted it. Again, eyeballing.

That done, I put it right sides together again, sewed it up, trimmed the excess, ironed it flat, and pinned it onto my sleeve with a safety pin.
