Hey!

This thread is archived.

  • Hi guys,

My name is Gari and I'm from the UK and I wanted to say hi to everyone on the forums. I'm new to cosplaying but in the process of getting my first costume (Kylo Ren) up and running. I've always been interested in cosplaying, but after visiting a number of events like Comic-Con and Star Wars Celebration over the years, my passion for it has grown and grown and I just thought...WHY THE HELL NOT!

I look forward to interacting with you all in the future.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Gari. Hows the costume coming along? Just thought Id say hey :3 I'm in the say boat as you, I've done London a few times now and my obsession is growing at an intense rate!

    Hey!

it's coming along very slowly, but as I'm new to all of this, I didn't want to rush it so I'm taking it slowly but steady (hopefully lol).

Glad your passion is growing for cosplaying and I'm sure once I get the bug of being out there in my costume, I'll become obsessed with it even more. Do you have a certain type of character that you like to cosplay as? or a range of different characters across film, tv, comics or video games?

  • Hey Gari!

It's always nice to meet a fellow cosplayer from the UK (and Star Wars fan, at that!). Kylo Ren is one of my favourite characters from the series, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing you cosplay him. ^^ Are you having fun putting all the bits and pieces together?

Oh really? How long have you been cosplaying for? I always find it more rewarding to take your time because the difference is so huge than trying to rush it!

Its the best feeling ever especially when people take notice xD this year I'm doing Margeary from aGoT which I did last year and got quite a bit of notice for it. Usually I tend to do historical based one. So I did Lagertha last year which took me about 6months and too much money to make. As I said its so worth it when you put that kind of effort in xD. What about you, what sort of cosplay have you do before, or want to do?

    Hey!

Likewise. I know cosplay in the UK is big these days but out of everyone I know, I'm the only one that really gets it. Another friend of mine is starting to really warm to the idea of cosplaying at the likes of Comic-Con and Star Wars Celebration so I'm hoping that its not too long before he joins me.

As for having fun putting everything together, yeah, it's great fun. While there have been frustrating issues popping up every so often, when it all goes great, I didn't expect it to be so rewarding. It's actually very therapeutic.

I couldn't agree more. Currently, Ive not technically started cosplaying yet as this is my first costume but once I do start, I won't be able to stop lol. The type of cosplaying I'm into is Star Wars firstly and then comic book stuff next. To be honest, I have some many I'd love to try to do as I love so many characters from all different shows/films so I haven't really got a set type of character I will always go for.

Oh wow, seeing a Margaery Tyrell costume will be awesome. All the best with it and I'm sure it'll look fantastic and good on you for doing

  • I'm glad you have a friend who (hopefully!) is going to tag along to some cons with you! ^^ I don't have any friends here who are that into the whole thing. Glad you're finding it therapeutic to work with; I've got a few projects I'm working on right now and sometimes it's therapeutic as you said, and other times I feel like I'm driving myself nuts. It's because I can't focus on one darn thing at a time. ;_;

Yeah, hopefully, he does end up coming with me, but if he doesn't, it's no big deal as I'll enjoy myself no matter what.

I do agree with what you said regarding it sometimes driving you nuts as that's something that's happened to me as well. Most of the time I enjoy it, but there are times when I feel like giving up lol

I'm hoping I'll be at as many cons in the UK next year, so maybe we should try and arrange a group of us from the UK that is here on the forums as that would be awesome.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, but damn that would be a great idea! Not sure if anything like that has been done before, but it would be a great experience. ^^ Keep in touch, let me know if you do get to go to any cons? I might see you there. :)

oooohh how exciting!!! So what made you have the idea for the Cosplay life? :p oh for sure! Once you get the buzz for it there's no going back. Tbh u felt so self conscious and felt like a bit of a prat at first but my god! Its a done deal lmao.

Oh that's awesome, I mist day Star Wars has never been my thing but I hella respect some of the craftmenship that goes it to it. How are you finding making yours on a technical front?

That's the trouble isn't! So many cosplays and yet so little time :p

Haha thank you! I've had to make a few tweaks since October but I reckon I can pull of a pretty good Marg haha
