Where to Buy a Corset?

This thread is archived.

  •
For the love of god, do not buy from Corset Story, Corsets UK or any of these brands.

I'd really recommend you spring for a Orchard Corset product. They make high quality corsets for 60-80 dollars. They're rather plain but you can sew on buttons, patches, or gears and Steampunk them out.

    I recommend this one: http://www.orchardcorset.com/corsets/steel-boned-longline-underbust-corset-in-satin-cs-426/
    In maroon.
Is there a particular reason you (and this blog) are recommending to avoid all these stores? I've bought corsets from Corset Story, and I've never had an issue with them, so I'm curious.

I'm definitely going to check out Orchard Corset though, since I saw the name pop up a couple times here.

I think in general, places like Corset Story are hit or miss for a lot of people. Corsets should, ideally, be made-to-order for a person so that they're guaranteed to fit the way they need to for an individual, as an ill-fitting corset can cause issues. And places like Corset Story are very general off-the-rack sizing. And for some people, that actually works out just fine. But for a lot of people, it ends in ill-fitting garments that can, potentially, cause a lot of discomfort or even harm.

  • Does anyone know anything about Cameillas Corsets?

Oh I totally agree, it's just that ArchangelGarrus seemed adamant against Corset Story and the other retailers on the blog list, so I'm just curious xD I would take a custom fit over an off the rack corset ANY day lol

  • You might want to look at
    http://www.rebelsmarket.com/shop/steampunk-clothing-8

    or steampunk corsets section

    http://www.rebelsmarket.com/s/steampunk-44~women-bustiers-corsets-46

  • try Kinky Angel? I love this site :) Also amazon, Etsy, or timeless trends :P all good stuff

  • The other thing about Corset Story and similar is that they often use plastic boning or low-quality steel. Plastic will warp and stab you, and bad steel bruises and can cut fabric and skin. A good corset has capped spiral steel bones, the more the better, and spring steel at the front and back.

  •
I've been thinking of doing a steampunk cosplay, but I don't know where I can buy a corset. I've heard that a lot of places overprice, or don't make good quality corsets. I may be a bit over-paranoid because of that article I read, but it basically said that almost every corset seller is overpricing. So I figured I'd come here, since I'm sure many people here have bought corsets before.

Does anyone know any good sites to buy a corset? Or maybe what I should look for when buying, and how I can tell if somewhere is overpricing? Thanks so much in advance!
•
you won't find many cheap corsets with quality. they are always gonna be pricey. it's better to suck it up and pay a little extra for a great corset that will fit you or one that will be shit.
steel boning is a must, plastic boning will wear out.

try one of these two shops:

  • I highly recommend www.laceembrace.com, who did my custom corset (as a 270 lb male).

In addition, they did the corsets for the actresses in Sucker Punch and Red's corset in Once Upon a Time.

  • [snip] Duplicate.

  • I suggest to ask a good seamstress to make you a corset. It must fit perfectly to your body, standard sizes not Always do.
