So here's the deal, I've only been to megacon -multiple times- and have recently found out about metrocon. I'm thinking about going, but I'm not sure yet. Basically. I want you guys to tell me what you like about about metrocon or even what you don't. If you've been to both mega and metro and like metro better tell me why. Even if you just think of some difference or similarities I want to see 'em. I'm going to megacon regardless of if I go to metro or not, me and mom always enjoy it. I have looked at metro's website -about a week before christmas- and the fact that they do a masquerade ball really intrigued me since I always wanted to gobto one.

I've never been to their masquerade, but I like metro because while it's still a big con, it's not nearly and gigantic and hectic as Mega. It also has a lot more spots for photographing cosplays/ doing photoshoots in my opinion (like down on the docks).
This year it's also going to be a 4-day convention.

Thank you for your input! I wanted to make a decision before the end of the month as I think I saw on metro's website the ticket price goes up. I've actually never done a photo shoot for my -few- cosplays, professional or otherwise. I have pics of them, but it's just me standing there in costume lol. It's actually something I want to do more of and it's nice to know that metro has good spots for shoots. Thank you again!

I would hope you see this, but here is my opinion as I've gone to Mega once and Metro twice. Both are interesting conventions but Metro is superior to me as it has more benefits when you really think of it. They focus more on their community and getting the best for it's con-goers and give people what they want. Mega-con is good, but it is more focused on the industrial side of things and from my experience JUST a market place which is good for vendors if they can get in. I've never been able to enjoy it though since It's just been too crowded for my liking and to really see someone's art.

Metro-con:

*The organizers like to give you the experience of a lifetime so they will listen to your concerns and are open to discussion on their Facebook groups.
*Open longer so you can get more from your experience
*It's full, but in the least you should have space to move
*Anyone can create a panel
*Overall the convention is for everyone and has so much to offer
*Plus + they added another con day which explains the price boost
*The fire show + Masquerade are the biggest features of the convention.

Megacon:

*The best venders room in Florida
*They bring big celebrities you don't normally see here (Then again a lot of Comic conventions try doing that compared to anime cons)
*It's a large convention so you have more chances of seeing new people from all over than other conventions + more likely to be photographed as when I went it looked like there were photographers set up in a lot of the hallways.

Thank you for helping me out! I don't know what year you went to mega - it's crowded every year, but usually it's not too horrible lol- but 2014 was just Holy Crap! It took us forty five minutes just to get into the parking lot. We haven't decided if we're going yet, but if we do we we were thinking Thursday and friday I believe- thursday for the masquerade and friday for the con- which brings another question to mind do hotels sell out fast for metro? What's one that's good for a good price?

Thank you again :)

I went in 2013 actually, and only really experienced Saturday + Sunday since I got there around 6+7 on Friday and left to a friend's place. The beginning wasn't so bad, but by 2-3 we could barely move at the time and I really didn't wanna go back in after how crowded it was. I did hear about last year and really really hope they don't have that happen again this year. But that is definitely is insane! Um, I can't really say what to think about Thursday since this is the first year it has 4 days. Fridays they normally has the Masquerade + Fire show but you might have to ask the staff on their Facebook group. Also, It depends on the hotel but they definitely do go out earlier if you choose the main one. Embassy is their main hotel and they just posted rooms a few days ago and sold out for most of the rooms, so they added more. You could also try the Marriot since it's a bit cheaper than Embassy Suites and not very far from the convention center. Do you care about how far it is from the convention and certain amenities like a microwave?

Close would be nice, but I don't mind if it's not exactly within walking distance, like if it's a short drive but you would prolly think twice about walking it lol. As for things like a microwave/ little fridge I'd say yes only because we might bring food from home to eat. That and even if we do eat out I have a tendency to eat half, take the rest with me to eat later that night. I think I saw something on metro's website about the masquerade being on thursday this year in which case we'll be going thursday n' friday not friday n saturday . I'll have to check again, I might've looked at it wrong lol

Depending on how you feel, you might want Embassy since they have a walkway that leads into the Artist Alley and I believe they give you breakfast. It is the priciest one though and you would need to check to see if they're available. You might be able to if it's just Thursday and Friday. It also has a microwave you can use. If you went to Marriot though you might have to bring your own since I didn't have that last year in my room (this is perhaps a 5 minute walking distance). Howard Johnson was the first hotel I went to for Metro and it was decent. I rarely used my room since I was at the con, but it has a microwave, cheaper (89 per night) though a good walk which is good, unless you don't like walking or have a huge cosplay. People also like Sheraton but I haven't used that hotel yet and not sure what to say about it.

You're welcome! ^^ Hopefully you find the hotel you like, but another thing you should do is look for parking around the place, we spent 60 last year on this pass for a parking spot for the weekend and didn't realize there was cheaper parking there for 10 per day. Also, look up Embassy now just in case since I'm not sure how long til that is booked.
