So all you DragonCon going people....when do tickets go on sale and when are the hotels open for booking? I'm trying to go one of these years...

#2 Inertiaticc on 4 years ago

tickets are on sale now, i believe they're at $75 and they increase in price until the con. Hotels are also on sale now, depending. As far as I know the host hotels are sold out already, and overflow hotels will be continuously opening for booking this month and next month. Check out Dragon*Con Hotel Connection on FB for better hotel info.

The memberships will rise above $75 on Sept 15, and the Hyatt, Westin, and Sheraton are sold out already to my knowledge. The Marriott will open via the obnoxiously aggravating "passkey" system in October. There are plenty of overflow hotels that are connected to the main convention via Marta public transit or the Dragoncon shuttle system, but I don't know how to find them. I am told that hotel rooms cost an average of $200/night.

As mentioned above, buy your passes for next year NOW, because they increase in price over the course of the year. They'll probably be $150++ if you buy them at the door. We got ours at their physical store before leaving on Monday this year.

We stayed in a non-host hotel this year - the W - and based on our great experience, we already bought 4 nights for next year. It's quiet, nice amenities, and not too far a walk from all the things that we like to do. It's not in the heart of party-central, but if you don't want to stay up and party all night, it's a good option.

The Host hotels are not all sold out. The Marriott for instance has not even opened up their room blocks yet(they are opening theirs Oct 9th for passkey booking I think). The Hyatt is probably sold out. The Hilton is up in the air because they let people who stayed there this year get vouchers to reserve their rooms at check out. The Westin and Sheraton opened a few rooms blocks during or the day dragon con that sold out within a few hours. Both of those hotels will be opening up blocks later(sheraton has specific dates, westin not). There is a good facebook page called Dragon*Con Hotel Connection that gives all this information.

Before these blocks are opened the hotels will show as sold out, but that does not mean they are. It is the same for a lot of the overflow hotels.

We were told by the Marriott that they aren't opening sales for the new dates till Oct 1st, for both the DragonCon and Non-DragonCon rate. But then again, they didn't mention anything to mom about or related to passkey.

"2015 Host Hotel Availability Update!

According to the hotel, the Marriott Marquis is opening for reservations on October 8th. The passkey link (yes, passkey) will be posted here as soon as Dragon Con posts it on their website.

As a reminder to any would-be scalpers: scalping is illegal in Georgia. We will ban and report to the Con anyone who tries to transfer hotel rooms for profit, regardless of the hotel. DC follows up with the hotels on all our reports. Your rooms can be cancelled without warning and the hotels can take legal action against you if you try to scalp rooms. We have eyes on other DC FB groups and pages as well. Please don't make us be the heavy. Book only the rooms that you need for your group and let everyone have a fair a crack at booking as possible with passkey."

I was off by a day. And passkey sucks....

#8 lemuries on 4 years ago

Thank you for the update on October 8. I know from past years that they are gone in 15-30 minutes, so being off by a day would have elicited some screams and tears, for sure.

No problem. I was at work on the first post so I didn't have access to facebook to check.

Just some notes from the hyatt's passkey. Try for a few hours. They were releasing them block by block so I had friends get theirs 1-2 hours after the website said they were sold out because they released a new block and lots of people gave up after 30 minutes. Some people also reported getting some the next morning. I do not know how accurate that is though.

"Hotel Update - The Atlanta Marriott Marquis will go on sale for Dragon Con 2015 on October 8th at 9a EST.
Please note, we will update the website (and communicate details here) as the day approaches. Bookings will be made through a 1-800 number AND the Marriott website, not Passkey. They are dedicating significant resources to trying to try to improve the booking experience and manage the extreme demand as best as possible.
Stay tuned!"

Not passkey! Yay!
