Just bought my jacket pattern for Mika! My goal is to have it done for Anime Boston, but I have never made anything from scratch before and have never used a sewing machine. And I might also need a pattern for the pants. Wish me luck!
Might I ask what pattern you bought? I'm kind of second guessing the pattern I have currently and after closely looking at the jacket designs it's different than the pattern I have.

I used Simplicity 2333, which is a simple enough design that I feel will work well. ow I just have to find a simple pattern for dress pants. Off to simplicity again!
My friend and I have officially decided that we're going to be Yuu and Mika for Acen 2016 c: (Her being Mika, and I being Yuu.) Already have a pattern for the coat but we still need to buy fabric hehe
Hello there. Me and my friend really want to cosplay as Mika and Yuu and we want to make the costumes ourselves. The problem is that we couldn't find a pattern for the costume and I noticed that you said that you found a pattern for the coat. Would you please share the pattern with us? We would really want to see what kind of pattern we should use. Thank you very much.^^

Sure thing! For Yuu's coat I plan to use this pattern: http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4745-products-7030.php?page_id=493 (the coat on the right with one row of buttons) my reason for this is that I plan to alter it slightly, the pattern already has Yuu's collar however instead of his coat closing by one flap overlapping the other and buttoning closed it's more like he has a regular coat with a regular closure but with one whole flap of fabric fastened on top of his chest with snaps so that's what I intend to do. (I hope i explained this correctly but if you're still confused let me know >.>)

And of course for Mika my friend intends to use this pattern: http://www.simplicity.com/p-5402-mens-costumes.aspx as mentioned above.

I have patterns for the coat and the pants now (See and Sew B5908 for those wondering) but can't figure out what fabric to use. The coat pattern wants brocade or fake velvet, and the pants pattern wants linen or Gabardine. I am thinking cotton blend for both, but I don't know how changing the fabric for a pattern affects how you make the costume. Thoughts?

(Yes, I've posted in the fabric choice thread, but haven't gotten a response.)
