Hello Whovians,

I need input please.

After seeing the 50th special I decided that I would really love to do something Doctor Who, but did know what. I feel I really couldn't pull off anyone and thus I wouldn't be happy. In the end I said frick it, I am not going to go for accuracy here, I just want to put together something nice that anyone looking at it will go "Yup that's Doctor Who."

I putting togther the Doctor's outfit from the 7th season.
I guess it would be consider genderbent since I am not going to try to pass myself off as the Doctor. It's just me more or less wearing the Doctor's outfit.

Anybody who has or is trying to make that dang purple coat knows how hard it is to find matching fabric. Unless you're willing to pay either $300 a meter for the same exact fabric, or about $450 for a coat from AbbyShot.

both cases are too expensive for my blood.

So best thing one can do is search around and hope they find an existing coat that would be close enough to the actual thing. The other day I found and bought this.

Sorry for the blurry pictures, my camera did not like the lighting in my room.

Obviously I have to make modifications and alter it here and there, but the fabric I think is pretty darn close. I might have to darken some of the white specs.

What do you all think? Did I get lucky? Is the fabric pretty close? Or am I just fooling myself?

No, that's a terrific find! Wow. The fabric is very close from what I've seen of the real fabric. May I ask, was this an ebay find, or from a shop/online store? I'd pick one up too! The white flecks is the part of the fabric most hard to find.

Thank you! I keep worrying that I am the only one that thinks it looks pretty close to the fabric of the original.
I thought there might be too many white flecks when comparing, but you say that's not so. I guess I am just agonizing unnecessarily.

Oh I wish I could tell you where you could get the same one but it was an ebay find, a very lucky one. The coat is by Jones New York and I think it's a peacoat, so maybe you could search around for it knowing that. I wish I could offer more help because I know how hard it is to make or find a coat with the right looking fabric.
