Anyone considering the Speed dating at Megacon?

  • well, true. I'm def not looking for a gf right now and I dont like distance relationships i just wanna look for friendship and see where it goes ^~^

  • Yeah I'm not looking for a bf either, just decent people that are into the same stuff that I could possibly become really good friends.... Ah to hell with it as long as you're upfront about why you're there everything should be good right

    Yes exactly :)

  • ^ Oh hey did you find the schedule on their facebook page?

  • it sign up at con this year

  • Speaking of signing up, I'm assuming you just go to the room they're having it in, but how early do you need to get there to sign up?

  • early it fill up fast

  • Awesome! Im on the same boat as KillerAngel, I only experienced the main rooms and not the side activities.. Looking forward to it!

  • get con ticket and then look for sign up

  • anyone do this? Was my first MC and I didn't actually know it was a pay add-on event (for guys) but I stopped by out of curiosity on Sunday and saw it was 'free for ladies'. $30 for guys; too steep for me when I'm probably on the high side (37) of what most female participants would consider dating or possibly even not having enough overlapping other interests. I'm just making a guess at the age demographic.

They did say they had an excess balance of women, and a lot of women were signing up a 2nd time (their word), but I saw some people saying how awful it was, so not sure what the truth is. Any after-action report from either gender on their honest opinion of this? Also wondering, is the feeling of non-prospect for actual dates coming out of this partially because of post-con distances, lack of physical attraction, or something else?

  • I actually had a pretty good time. I went twice because 1 it was fun and two the first time I was a little too closed minded so the second time I was more open minded and looking for friends. I think it's a great experience especially for people like me that get a little nervous meeting new people. To answer your second question, post-con distance plays a big role but I didn't let that stop me from making new friends. One guy and I may even go out next time we're at the same con so who knows.

  • 30 bucks is a little steep...but since I didnt goto the after party Saturday, thought I give it a try. Never know if you find a fellow nerd with common interests. But really?? You have 3 minutes to talk to each person. I thought I did pretty good....and connected with a few women. But when I looked at my number sheet..... not one girl was interested. I was actually kind of shocked. Im a half latin, pretty cute, and confident.....guess a majority dont like latins these days smh.

  • I dunno.....its a mix for me. I really dont see why guys have to pay 30 and women are free. Its not like were going to a dance club where women get in for free and get free drinks. If im single next year ill probably try again.....but personally. ...the speaker is very rude and his super pale girlfriend assistant that dressed like wonder woman was even more.

  • I know it's been forever since this has had a post, but I have a question that maybe some of you could be able to answer!
How does the speed dating feel about bisexual people? I've never done anything quite so bold as speed dating before, and would hate to be shunned out of my first attempt. XD

I looked up the website of the guy that does the speed dating at Megacon last year before I went and from what I remember they had sessions for gays/lesbians, sessions for straight people, I could swear bisexual people had sessions too, but it could have been that they were just welcome in both sessions. I do know on their website (the speed dating one) it had a message of everybody being welcome regardless of which way they swung.

As Megacon gets closer they'll have a list again of what's going on this year along with links for all the side events, I'd keep my eye out for the link so you can check out the guy's website, but from what I remembered reading and personal experience the majority of the people attending seemed very open minded and just wanting to meet new people and have a good time, hopefully meeting people that either led to a serious relationship or even just really good friends.
    Hope this helps :)
