Hey guys, I'm going to be cosplaying a version of Rei Ayanami that has some pretty cool boots. I have several references for making the boot covers themselves, however, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do the black flames at the bottom of the boots. Like should I paint them? Cause trying to sew those flames onto/into a cover would be a pain in the butt.
I'm open to ANY suggestions you guys have. Thank you!

It does look like the intent is for them to look appliqued onto the boot. For simplicity's sake you could certainly just paint them on instead though, or maybe even just glue them on to fake the applique look after finishing the plain covers first. If you're really good at patterning boot covers I'd say maybe try it out, but I know I personally am not very good at them even after making a couple over the years, and with easy stretch fabrics.

Also what on earth version of Rei has those boots, and a giant gun? Isn't that just Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann? Are those just similar to what you're trying to make or the actual reference you're using?

I did some research and actually came up with the idea of using HTV for the boots, I think it'll give me a seamless look without having to pattern too much.
And LOL yeah it's a crossover figure of Rei and Yoko! [pic]
