Never cosplayed before, Thinking Orochimaru..

This thread is archived.

  • My cousin's been cosplaying recently and it's sparked my interest, so I thought I'd start off with something 'simple', Orochimaru's usual clothing isn't anything complex, other than making the purple rope belt stand up behind him, also my hair's long enough to not warrant a wig.

Problem is... never made any costumes before, I'm more than willing to learn how to sew and such.. I just have no idea where to start.

  • I can't say I have much experience sewing either, so feel free to ignore me, but sewing machines cost a lot of money. Even the low end ones can cost as much as an entire bought cosplay. It's rather difficult to make a cosplay without a sewing machine too (I tried and it didn't end well). So, if your heart isn't set on making it, you might be better off buying your first cosplay until you decide that this hobby (obsession?) is something you really love doing. But again, I'm not some kind of cosplay-guru so you can tell me to shut up and I won't be offended.

One more thing, A wig can really make a cosplay look a lot better. You don't have to if you don't want too, but its always an option.

    Links for buying costumes:

http://www.cosplayfu.com/comics/Naruto/Orochimaru#3287 - Me and my friend both bought costumes from here not that long ago and we were both very happy with them

As for wigs, the ones from Arda are very good. But, because Naruto is such a popular series you could probably type 'Orochimaru Wig' into google and get plenty of results. Just make sure that you don't buy a wig with 'party' in the name. Most cosplay wigs are mode with Kanekalon fibers which make them more realistic looking than the average Halloween store wig. Also heat resistant. That's very important if you want it to last.

Sorry for the essay of a post. I probably spent longer on this than my homework.(Yeah, not saying much.) I started typing and kinda forgot somebody would actually have to read this. :)

  • Well I told myself I wouldn't go store-bought (At least majority-costume wise, I'm not going to forge earrings), anyone can do that.. I want to be creative and make it myself. I have a friend who has a sewing machine if hand-sewing isn't that helpful in making things.

I just need help getting into the mindset, do I make this from scratch, what fabrics to use, do I try and buy similar clothing and alter them... stuff like that.

  • Well, in that case, I'm sure you know that altering thrift store clothes can be great! I hope you have fun! Sorry, I can't be much help but I wanted to say something. The threads in this section often don't get replied too. In any case, you seem like you'll make a great cosplayer!:)
