Dir en grey cross/cosplay

  • So the whole reason I joined this site was to find somebody, ANYBODY that I could talk to enthusiastically about Dir en grey cross/cosplay, so I've decided to start this thread.

Has anybody here ever cross/cosplayed anyone from Dir en grey? Or know someone that has? Share your stories, pictures and whatever else you want with me, please!

  • It's been YEARS since my friend and I did a few Dir en grey cosplay. They were some of our first, so we have come a LONG way in cosplay since then. She was Kyo in his Filth outfit with a gauzy shirt over it he wore for a modeling shoot and I did a REALLY barely known version of Toshiya from one of their early calendars. I used to have a lot of their stuff on my to cosplay list, but sorta lost interest in the cosplay part, I am still a huge fan of the band and listen to them all the time (seen them in concert ten times so far!). Maybe someday I will get the urge to cosplay one of them again, but for now, I've had my one moment.

  • Oh, I really like the Filth one! I'm not familiar with the Toshiya one. Did you make our own costumes or buy them?

  • The Toshiya one only has like one or two images because it was from a calendar. But for both costumes I made all the clothing items. I assisted my friend in making the dreadlocks. It took a lot of crazy planning, but a few crack-headed 2 a.m. ideas worked out and she had an awesome wig. The dreadlocks were made of quilt batting that was rolled and hand stitched closed. Then spray painted and then we had to flex them a lot to make them less crunchy^^ Once it was all done we sewed the dreads to a mesh top that was attached to the visor. It had it's own seat in the car on the way to the con. It's super heavy even though the materials were light weight because there's so much going on. Once we got the wig on her, we began to understand why Kyo had the chinstrap on that visor in the first place. It held the whole thing on. Without it, the wig would have just slid off her head.

  • That's awesome! Have you ever thought about cross-playing as Kyo?

  • I've only done Kyo once, was nothing big just a outfit i threw together last minute so i don't even know if that counts ahaha but i know someone who is a big Kyo cosplayer. He's cosplayed more Kyo costumes then i can remember and he is really good at them. Check him out if you want. His DA is Link

  • Not in a while. At one time we had a number of friends that were going to do the whole band and I had always leaned more towards Toshiya's costumes (he's also my favorite member of the band). I LOVE Kyo's style though, the man knows how to dress. One Halloween I threw together a costume that was based on Kyo's look in the I'll PV (since I have the tie he wore in it) but I didn't do the hairstyle because I am terrible at hair. Maybe one day I will pick up Dir en grey cosplay again, and just maybe I will choose a Kyo look (I'm definitely closer to his height than I am Toshiya's).

  • It seems like the hardest thing about cosplay is the hair. Maybe the shoes, too, I don't know. Even if it is super simple outfit, I want to do Kyo SO BAD. Which the very simplest would be topless, like he does at concerts, but I can't do that.

Oh yeah, he's a great cosplay. He actually did a version of Kyo from my friend's fanfic May All Be Pain or Love, which was really cool.

Some of Kyo's older outfits with the suits and ties can be easier to do. You could even do his look from the Final like your icon. Because of the hair and the make-up, it's really easily recognized even if the outfit itself is just a suit.

  • i wanna cosplay as die!
