I didn't straighten my hair so it's a little bit messy.... I'm also hoping my hair will be an inch or so longer by NYCC.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks!

  • I actually like the waves, but I believe Pluto's hair had green tones in it and wasn't straight black. I would straighten the top for the bun to be smoother though. :3

  • Her hair does have green tones in it; however, being that this is my real hair... I mean I thought about spray in color but I wouldn't want to risk the costume getting ruined.. PLUS I am cosplaying as Enma Ai the next day and her hair is straight and black... I'd have no time to wash the green out and straighten the hair out again for the following day. (I expect to have to go over the hair that was in the bun but that would be only a small portion of hair to iron)

The front of the bun is bumpy because the hair there was super curly/my tips so that will be smooth and hairsprayed for the con.

I've seen people cosplay Pluto with black hair and be recognizable... I wonder if i could get my hands on some sort of extensions that I could use as an overlay/highlights and blend them into my own hair from the bun down...

  • Oh! Extensions would be good! Arda makes great extensions. :) You need to get sew in clips (can get these at Sally's or on their website as well)

And spray in color is awful. Don't ever do it. EVER. If you're gonna color your hair, you should get semi-permanent color. But that's only if you're interested in coloring your hair anyway.

The hair color is recognizable, but the green just add's that extra "oomph", also Arda can ship quickly, unless your con is this weekend...

  • Colour your hair then buy another wig for your other cosplay, since you would be spending that much money on those extensions any way. Even if its a little more money it will be good in the long run (:
Well that's what I would do.

  • You can possibly get away with black hair. It's not extremely important than her hair have the green undertones because, at a distance, it can appear black. Yeah, just use a flat iron and you should be fine.

lol I thought about coloring my hair a dark green but I've been job hunting so I don't know how about explaining my cosplay hobby to a boss lollolol...

I do agree with the other comment that from a distance her hair does look black... it's the same with Mars, her hair sometimes has the purple highlights but overall her hair IS black.

  • Wow, you look amazing as Pluto already! I think maybe try making the bun a tiny bit smaller and see how it looks. And maybe in the future when you don't need to worry about job hunting, you could try out some subtle green hair coloring if they make stuff that doesn't dry your hair out. While Pluto does have the same advantages as Hotaru and Mars, in that their hair colors are so dark they look black, I think a little green sheen once you're able would be an extra amazing detail to make it absolutely perfect.

I'm still so amazed how thick and luxurious your hair is! It's really one of those rare instances where someone can not only get away not wearing a wig, but people could still think you are! My natural hair is on the completely opposite end of the spectrum, orange and very thin. XD

  • Ahaha yeah... I recall selling a costume a while back and someone asked me if the wig was for sale too @_@

I will try to make the bun smaller - I am thinking it looks big because A: the donut in the conair bun maker kit is a bit fat B: I didn't want to straighten my hair just to test making a bun because flat iron = damaging. So Hopefully when the hair is super straight and weighed down with some shea butter(what I use when I straighten my hair) the bun will be neat and MAYBE smaller.

I'd love to try going over my hair with a dark green manic panic at some point when I'm not hunting around for a job. It wouldn't be practical for this particular event anyway since I'm going to be Enma Ai the next day and her hair is flat black.
