it has finally arived

  • My canon 5d Mk3 has finally arived. The first thing I noticed was the shutter, it sounds like a tank. It just arived today and I have not had a chance to test it out fully, but as soon as I do I will write a quick review.

  • There is a silent shutter (S) mode that makes the shutter much quieter.

  • Congrats. Is it a boy or girl?

  • I always find it interesting how different the mirror/shutter sounds on different cameras. Moving from the XTi to the 60D to the 5D3, they are all very different.

Go out in the dark and crank up the ISO. On my first dark outing (a metal concert) I was getting great results at 25600. At H2 (102400) there's some noise banding that's not easily salvageable.

  • Congrats! I'm insanely jealous :P

  • i have no plans to use the silent shutter unless i have to. i like the sound and its a girl her name is Alexis :-P

  • Nice, I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work with the new tool. (points to picture of the day thread).

  • Congrats!
haha, yeah I got the 5D Mk3 about a month ago and the shutter sound is definitely one of the first things I noticed. There's also a ton more menu options lol.

and yeah, as nathancarter pointed out, the high ISO performance is awesome. Definitely helps with shooting in less than ideal light conditions.

I was so happy when you got the 5D Mk3 and the 24-70L II.

It was funny since we talked about it in Yaoi-con, and you actually did it a few days afterwards, LOL. I am a photographer's worst nightmare, I talk people into buying more gear.

My funds were headed for a fantastic deal on a '79 Mercedes 450SL, and my wife talked me into the 5D3 instead.

    "It'll do timecode," she said.
"If we slave it to the other camera, it'll really make video editing so much easier," she said.
"Just look at the image quality in the low-light video," she said.

    :untrust:

  • lol, more gear isn't a bad thing as long as its needed. i have played with the ISO this night. it will not be cosplay but it will show its capabilities. i took a shot at 500 iso in the dark of our area, then one at 12,800 iso. you can see everything clearly with only a little grain. i will upload them when i get of shift.

if we get any good demolition days up ahead I.E. 2,000 pounds or better i will get some great shots for here. the 6 photo continous shot is on the low end. i have it on the highest RAW file size and with a class 10 SD card it shoots 14 before the buffer is full even tho the brackets indicate 10.

Slave to the other camera for video and timecoding? That sounds interesting.

I think most of us would agree the camera was a better choice. :toothy:

  • however having it sent to Afghanistan is a bad idea. everyday i thought it wasn't going to make it.

  • what Big Cons are you all going to from June 2013 to Oct 2013? i will be on leave while getting out of the military. it will be my first con and i would like it to be a good one. also let me know if you would like to use it.
