NorCal Summer Gathering'09

  • I think after AX is a good idea. That's right about where I get some free time at least. Working on finishing up school now, then moving out of my apartment in SD to go back home to San Jose, then my family decided to book 2 cruises before AX. No time to even get that post-con relax time out of the way before AX.

    Looking forward to it!

  • We're not confirming for that date at all yet, so let's keep away from the snow-ball effect like what happened last time. As I mentioned, July is a tough month for everyone with Expo and Comic-Con (and that date falls right before CC). I don't want to choose a date now and have 15+ people say they can't make it because they're too low on cash.

If we do end up picking August then it would be early August, no where near when most schools open back up. Not to mention it's already hot now and it will be regardless what date we pick, but the park we're currently looking at in San Jose has tons of shady areas so that shouldn't be much of a problem. It doesn't get as hot as LA or Sac there anyway.

  • I missed the new thread going up -- thanks for the link, Kitty!

My two cents: the weekend of the 17th-19th of July sucks for me because I've got a Ren Faire I'm supposed to be working that weekend. From what people are saying, though, July sounds like it's crazy enough that maybe early August would be better, just to avoid back-to-back-to-back insanity over weekends. Dearly hoping I can be there this time, though!

  • I think August 8th or 9th would be best, though the weekend of Aug 15/16th should also work. Anything earlier and we run into July convention craziness; any later and we hit SacAnime and school.

  • August sounds good to me!

  • July would probably be best for me since RA training starts up in early August and I don't know which weekends would be free.

  • The only reason I can't do August is because August 1-7 I'll be gone with family. Any weekend after that would be super, though.

  • Shade is a priority...i mean up north is no 100+ bakersfield...but itll still be hot lol

  • I think that early August can work, I'll have to check my dates though.

  • If August works out, may I suggest the second weekend? That gives those who go to SDCC a week to recover (also another argument against the weekend of July 17th, as one assumes people going to SDCC will be in last-minute whirlwind prep), but doesn't push too late into the month.

    Just a thought.

  • I vote for August!
With both AX and then SDC in July--and I am seriously going to need that weekend before SDC to try to complete a (generic/random) Jedi costume because of what I have to complete in time for AX it's going to be a rush....yeah...
    August please!!

SJ can get toasty, but if there's shade we'll probably be okay, and especially if we get any afternoon winds.
Just don't pick the hottest costumes to wear and should be fun...
    ;)

I hope we can get something that works well for the most number of people.

  • There's a picnic going on in Fresno. (Woodward Regional Park, 2009-06-13.) Maybe some of you can drive southeast for that?

I was considering this one, but it's a 3 1/2 hour drive for me :mfg:

too far for me. And this is a separate event, which doesn't have to do with the Nor. CA event which is still in the works.

  • A park with tons of shade XD Gotta be a state park with tall redwood trees =)
