Korean American looking for other Koreans/cosplayers in Korea to hang with

This thread is archived.

  • I'm going to Korea in a week or less to visit family and I was hoping to find some people to hang out with while I'm there. I'm going to be there a whole month and I've got no friends there. Cosplayers are a plus. I'd prefer girls though because it would make me feel more comfortable, since I'm a girl myself. Since I'm probably going to miss Halloween here I'm thinking of bringing a cosplay with me but no idea what.

And I won't be in Seoul, I'm staying in a city near Seoul, about 3 hours away I can't remember what it's called. I keep thinking of Choson or Inchon? Probably cause they sound similar... But if any one's in the area where I'll be staying at I'd love to meet up so I have friends to hang out with for a month! AH! And must be decently fluent in English. I'm not fluent in Korean at all. If your interested just pm or reply here, thanks!

Oh and if any one might know any cosplay events going on near my area where I'll be staying (once I definately find out where I'll be) let me know! I'll probably bring my finished cosplays but afraid to lose them when I fly over since they probably won't fit.

There weren't any real recent threads in this forum so I made a new one.

  • Once you find out where you'll be for sure let me know and I'll try to help with cons. If you are going to be in Inchon it's only about a 30-40 minute train ride to Seoul. As for Choson I'm not sure where that is on the map so I can't be of much help for that one.

Okay, awesome. Honestly, I have no clue yet I know I'm going to be leaving for Korea this month on the 30th. I'll ask my mom tonight, I forgot to ask last night. >.<

I dunno if I'll be around long enough to attend a con, but any other cosplay events would be great.

  • About how long will you be in Korea for? We have a con coming up next month. ^ ^
Maybe you will still be here for that! : 3

Incheon (where the major airport is located) is fairly close to Seoul. Easy to get here from there by train or bus.
Choson... I don't know of a place by that name, but places that sound similar are Ulsan (3-4 hours away) and Daejeon (2-3 hours away).

My mom said we're staying at her sister's which is 3 hours away from Seoul. I'm going to be in Korea for a month for just about all of Oct. I suppose it would be all Oct because 30 days, we leave on the 30th and arrive on the 1st so all of Oct. No clue if I'll be able to afford it or not though if I can manage to make it cause I'd have to get money from my mom because I'm broke. Only reason I'm able to go is cause my parents are paying for every thing and my mom is going to help pay my rent. Cause if I don't work I don't paid. I don't get paid time off unfortunately.

Maybe I keep thinking of Choson because I think I was born there. Dunno.

So confused. My birth certifercate says Kyongki-Do. O.o

    What ever. lol

But I don't know really how far we're going to venture out. I did tell my mom I want to go to Seoul so I think she'll probably take me there since this is the first time I've been back to Korea since I was born. And she hasn't been back in over 20 years. I just want to go to a cool hole in the wall and get drunk off of soju and eat pulgogi and kimchi. lololololol

  • Well, you'll be here for a con! ^ ^ It's the... 22-23 of October. ^ ^
I don't know why your parents wouldnt want to come to Seoul when they visit. There is so much here!~ ^ ^ And, right around the con is a really well known flower market so maybe you could talk them into going there while your at the con or something?

Okay so I found out we're going to be staying in Osan? I know that's where my dad used to be stationed when he was in the air force so this is probably gonna be awesome for him. And my mom said we're landing in Incheon but we're probably not going to be there for long. Since I don't even know what time we'll be landing.

  • Okay! So I've been having a hard time finding Osan on any map website, google maps, map quest, etc to get a general idea of how far away it is from Seoul. But there's nothing listed as just Osan but my mom couldn't remember the full name. But I found Osan-Si which I think is it and it's only about an hour and a half by public transit from Seoul. Soooooooooo. If either way I don't think it would be so bad. I'd just need my mom with me so I feel safe because I can't read Korean and I don't know what a won is worth. lol I know that the exchange rate is good, you get more Korean money from American money I do believe. Unless it changed from the last time I looked.

  • Osan is where a friend of ours lives. Her name here is Pinapplegum. ^ ^
It's about an hour south of Seoul.
    About 1,100~1,200 won is $1.
And you should be able to take public transit without knowing Korean. It's all really easy. ^ ^

It's not that, I just feel scared traveling alone. I have to take the bus to my parents, and then we're going to go to the air port about 2 or 3 days after that. Since I rode on the bus to where I live now I know riding the greyhound isn't so bad. I think it's a little bit different when I'm on my own and don't know the language of the country even if most Koreans probably know basic English. I'd feel safer with my mom or atleast my dad around. My dad knows Korean even if he can't speak it very well. lol

Oh well maybe I'll message her if they wanna hang too. Osan shouldn't be bad because I think that's where my mom lived, or around there because my dad was stationed at Osan AB and he met my mom around there.

So she might or might not remember all the stuff around there. Plus my dad told me around the airforce bases they speak English. So yay. I only really know a few words. lol

  • Alright, leaving tonight to go to my parents, and then we're leaving Oct 3rd to go to Korea. We're landing in Incheon and we're staying at a hotel for the night. If any of you feel comfortable giving me your number I'm gonna try to get a go phone in Korea, or the very least I think my dad will have his lap top. Since I don't know if my mom ever got that international cell phone thingy she wanted.

I'm excited and hoping I can go to that con for atleast a day since I don't know how much spending money I'll have. I get another paycheck while I'm in Korea and before the con but depending on how much it is the whole thing may have to go to my next month's rent when I get back. So... I'll have to see. I think I'm going to bring my Misa and C.C. though I think I'm just going to wear a dress for C.C. since I don't have any of her actual outfits but I have a wig for her.

  • Yay!~ Well, let us know if you can go either day for sure. ^ ^
My number is 010-4965-0460. Let me know it's you if you call or text me. ^ ^

I might have to get a calling card or some thing cause my mom just got a cell phone but she's only got 40 minutes on it. We came in Incheon but we're staying in Songton, I don't know how to spell it. lol By the Osan ab. I've got internet until we get more minutes or some thing for the phone.

  • Contact pinapplegum! She has posted on the Korean forums before. She lives on Osan and we have a 4 day weekend comig up. We can all meet. ^ ^

OHMYGOSH! I live on the military base CALLED Osan, but it's actually situated in Songtan... so 2 stops away from where you live. As for going alone - Korea is one of the SAFEST places you'll ever go to. I walk alone at night with no problems, and the subways are awesome.

When you get to Korea, send me a PM and I'll give you my cell#. ^.^
