Monster High

  •
Were you talking to me? even if you weren't I'm going to give my two cents on it xD

I'm going to combine two wigs into one: a long black one as the base (I may need to get extensions to add body to the back once I separate the locks for the tails) and cut up a pink wig of the same style/length to sew the wefts into the black. Cut bangs into the base, add the wefts, then stub the pigtails and create them on their own before attaching to the wig. I've been getting loads of advice from someone with a lot of experience with difficult/elaborate wigs, so hopefully I can keep turning to her when/if I hit roadblocks.
Here's a long, black wig that already has pigtails parting in back, to save you the trouble of the wefting. :) Sounds like you have a great plan, can't wait to see your Draculaura. ^_^

  • ^ I looked at that one, but I'm not liking it 100%. Mainly because it's tails are up on the head rather than at the base of the neck (like Draculaura's), but also because it's so thin in terms of tail fullness and I don't think I'd wanna mess with them. I think if I just start from scratch I can get it to sorta the way I want. Thanks though! :)

  • Just popping in here to subscribe to this thread. :) I love the Monster High dolls, and considered a Ghoulia costume for Dragon*Con this year (the only con I'm attending this summer). But... I already have 3 costumes I have to finish by then. So I'll live vicariously through all of you instead. ;)

Yeah, the pigtails are too high, but I still think that taking them out and putting them in again lower would be a lot easier than having to back-part a normal wig. ^^;; Plus, there aren't really any wigs out there that are going to be thick enough for this without adding a bunch of wefting... Most wigs will look that thin or worse if pulled into tails :(

  • ^ That does bring up a question: is the wig just style with the hair pulled up, or is it fixed so the tails are gonna stay no matter what? If the latter, then I'd just as soon get a plain wig and add in no-sew wefts like Katie Bair's tutorials just to fill it out in the back, then sew in the pink wefts myself and style from there.

If it's not obvious, it's been quite a while since I bought a wig xD

  • You could also go with clip-on pigtail extensions... then they'd be easily movable. There are a couple here: http://www.cosplayanimewigs.com/kaexwi.html One is curly but looks like it has more volume? Maybe you could straighten that one if you want longer/fuller tails.

Of course, those are solid black too, so you'd still need to weft in the pink. >_

  • I would love to do lagoona or maybe one of the newer ghouls x3

    I'm legitimately addicted Dx

  • I will admit that this series caught my attention. I'm a sucker for Egypt, so I'd have to cosplay Cleo sometime in the future~

  • Omg yes.
I want to do a MH cosplay at some point! I'm just unsure what character to do. ):

  • I LOVE MONSTER HIGH!!!! I've liked the dolls since they came out, but the other night my friend got me into it more and now I'm so obsessed! I want to do every Cleo outfit, haha!!

^The pigtails are totally moveable/adjustable! I bought this wig as a base for a Sailor Moon wig~ The pigtails are just held apart with ribbon, so it's up to you to position/style them~ and also, it may not look it, but it was superrrrrrr thick! I would most definitely recommend getting that wig, because even if you have to add thickness anyways, it's already thicker than most wigs out there! :D

Oh, and Emrys: maybe try using a wig that's meant for Nia from Gurren Lagann?? It's already pale blonde with the light blue streaks and curly! :DD

  • I'd love to cosplay from this series, but every single character has two-coloured hair! I can't customize wigs! But I love the characters and the outfits.

  • Some friends and I have a Monster High group for this year's San Diego Comic-Con! We'll be out on Saturday, and with a Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Lagoona, Ghoulia, and Abbey Bominable. If anyone's going, come say hi!!

Wow, you're not kidding! I'd never watched GL, and I stumbled across this while looking for another wig:

My first thought was "holy crap it's Lagoona!"

  • I want to do one of these girls too, but I just can't decide! I'm thinking about either Lagoona or Spectra. Maybe Abbey. I don't know who I like best!!

  • Can't wait to see the awesome costumes. Monster High dolls are adorable.
