Thought it would be fun to have a place for us NYCC folk to talk construction woes or, alternatively, successes. :)

I made a mockup of Emma Frost's leotard thingy today with some scraps from Lucia I was never going to use again. A nearly unqualified success! A few edits to make before my final pattern, but I should be able to produce the real thing within the week, if I can stop playing Transistor for ten minutes. (In other news I am so wildly in love with this game and if I don't make Red for NYCC, it's happening for PAX East.)

I'm hung up on my lack of a sewing machine and waiting for commissions. I don't want to do any more editing of my shoulder armor until I see what it already looks like when the coat is on, which I'm waiting for. What I should be doing right now is buying the leather I need to make my card pouch, but I've been distracted by various things of varying importance, from hospital visits to outright laziness. The lack of sewing machine prevents me from putting the gold trim on my hat. I also need to get the vest tailored/made(sewing machine permitting) :( The reason I'm holding off on getting the sewing machine is because my aunt has one that belongs to my mom, but even then, it's a REALLY old machine. @[email protected] Like, 1950s old. I'm not sure if it even works.

I have two machines, one of which is an old 50s Singer Featherweight. It's a great piece of machinery. Very reliable.

If you want good local leather selection, I really like Leather Suede Skins, Inc. Its in the fashion district, and weird and upstairs, but it has an amazing selection. Don't know about you, but I always prefer to see and feel leather before I buy it.

Should Red be done by the end of the year, you REALLY should look into going to MAGfest. It would be perf to shoot at.

I wouldn't dare buy leather without inspecting it in person. It's so expensive. @[email protected] I'm also going to need red silk for the lining of my hat. I'll look into that place. Thanks! :D

I have one costume partially started, well the main sewing is done for that costume. I still have to make a mask, arm gauntlet and I have to make boots for it as well. I have two other costumes yet to buy fabric for. I haven't even started to look at those. I did send away for fabric samples. My fourth cosplay is pretty much a closet cosplay, but I need to make my self a quiver with arrows. Too much to do in less than 60 days.

I'm stuck at a stand still because I cannot locate fabric that will work for my Timeskip Robin cosplay. One Piece can have some pretty crazy costumes fabric/pattern wise, but hers is relatively vanilla for the series. I'm stuck because no one near me carries a pleather, or material like it, in an Indigo/Purple. I've found every color inbetween, but not what I need. I have to wait until I'm in NY for school to go hunting in the fabric district. :[

That would be an awesome idea. Currently hoping I can get enough money together to make it happen. Also, have you seen this freakin' amazing Red? Guh. Such skills.

Most of my construction time today got co-opted by my cos-partner to make his Namor scales, so I didn't get farther than cutting my fabric. It was probably more efficient than teaching him how to make scalemail though. :/

Waiting for the paint to dry on one of my Dick Grayson Escrima sticks. Gonna have a basic one done for DCON, then making the second one, which should be a tad fancier for NYCC.

Got a bunch of sewing done today. After this, I'm going to have to start thinking boots. My old Emma boots are pretty scuffed and messy after all this time, not sure if I should try to salvage them or just get new boots...

Looks like I need to buy a sewing machine to finish Twisted Fate's hat. My aunt is dragging her feet about finding my grandma's machine. I'll probably have to blow $150 on it. :(

Rocket is... Coming. Slowly. But I need more hot glue. I've already run through a pack of sticks constricting the head and I haven't even attached half the fur yet.

#14 eebee on 4 years ago

I would love to see Rocket progress pics. :D

I got today off, so I intend to 100% finish this leotard. We'll see if that goal is too lofty - I'm not sure yet if the material I have will work for the side straps, or if I need a new plan. I'll have plenty of time this weekend, but my Namor already begged a bunch of it to help him, since his sewing skills are somewhat lacking.

I'm working on a blog post... when the head is done I'll send the link. On another note, know when the deadline for submissions is for the cosplay contest? I can't seem to find it on their site
