Or is it more of a cloak? My brother has FINALLY agreed to cosplay so I want to help him out as much as I can, but I'm not too sure where to start with Ego's caped cloak from the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie. Is there a site with instructions or patterns that would help show me how and where to gather the fabric to get the look I need? I suppose I could just drape and pin things until I get the look, but I've never done something like that before and dont want to spend a month or more wrestling with fabric because I dont know what I'm doing.
So is there anything out there I could follow?

While his is actually constructed with all the cowled design in mind, you can get close with an ordinary cape. I blogged that, with pictures. Link in my signature. :)

COWL! That's the term I was needing (and I know that term/word, why in the heck didnt that come to me while I was trying to find examples and patterns?)

AND HOLY COW (or holy cowl) YOUR TUTORIAL IS SO EASY?? My mind is completely boggled that what I need to do is SO simple! And here I was so worried about that part of the cosplay, thank you so much!

Any recommendations on how to prevent it from dragging backwards and "choking" my brother? Or would the weight of the fabric counter balance itself and that's not a worry?

When it looks right, it is rarely positioned in such a way that the weight pulls back, usually the opposite, it might fall open to the front. A safety pin or two tucked underneath in the shoulder region can help keep things in place. Pin the cloak to the cloak, not your shirt.

Is there a picture of how to tie the straps somewhere?
