Wooden tights and arm socks

This thread is archived.

  • Hello, so my next big cosplay is going to be SKull kid from legend of zelda majoras mask and I really want to do him justice since he is one of my favorite LOZ characters. So I want to make tights and arm socks that really look like they are wood but somewhat have flexibility to move about. I heard of other cosplayers adding liquid latex to legging to get a raised and wood texture. I'm a bit confused what they mean about that. I was thinking maybe sewing on thin pieces of upholstery green foam from joanns to brown fabric in the shape of the wood texture shown in reference 1. How ever I have no clue if this idea is effiecient or would even work at all. Any ideas are welcomed, I also listed some cosplays that give the wooden texture im going for.

  • What are you confused about with the latex? That would be the easiest way to get that effect (I believe thats what phantomthief did in ref3)

  • I guess my question is how easy is it to work with and if its a drippy mess how to go about the process. Also if there is certain clothing latex I need to get or anyone works.

  • Liquid latex is really easy to work with, like a slightly thicker paint. For this you might want to use a stencil on a bodysuit and work in sections. The only difference to paint is that you will need to powder the latex as it dries, so it doesnt stick to itself. Painting the suit on a cardboard cutout would help a lot with this as you could work in large sections and go back easily.

As for "types" there's thinner types used for makeup application, and thicker mask and body paint types. Its the later you'll want to use.

(This is where i've bought from before)

You can get similar on amazon, but I didn't see brown. You CAN however color liquid latex with a bit of acrylic paint if you want a custom color (dries darker than when wet)

  • The pine bark look isn't very accurate if accuracy is what you're going for. The thing about wood is it doesn't have the texture people seem to think it has. It's not a texture you can feel when touching it. The most realistic solution would be to paint fabric like wood grain. Get stretchy tights and paint them with fabric paint either while someone is wearing them or stuff them to your measurements.
