2012 Masquerade: Official Thread

• I don't think I've seen this when watching masquerades at AN, but are there options for different lighting effects during a presentation? Like all lights out or single spotlight in the center, stuff like that?

Hey there!

There are no lighting options for the AN masq. You get a standard lit stage and that's it.

• You can request at a certain point to have the light turned on if you want to go onto the stage in the dark but that's it.

The stage ninjas are helpful. I had to pass them my scythe the one year.

• Since the light can be turned on at a certain point, can they also be turn off at the end of the skit so the cosplayers can leave in the dark?

Oh awesome, I think that would be enough to get the effect I want =) I guess I just request this when I register?

• Sorry for the delay in replies; it was a busy convention weekend (Ad Astra) and I can't access coscom from work.

Re: Stairs
stage ninjas will help you up and down. Going up stairs (and down on the other side) does not count to your time, as Sarcasm-hime said. They'll hold something for you as you go up the stairs, etc.

Re: lights
Will double-check with the tech team and let everyone know if you can ask for lights on/off at a specific time, and what kind of cue they would need. Until you hear from me, presume you cannot have any different lighting at all beyond the normal lit stage.

• Is there an offical filming crew for the masquerade...
large screen?
.if not i'de be willing to do it....
I am a profesional!!! 28 years of filming...

• Re: Lights
In past years, the lights would be dimmed between entries, but not blacked-out. This was for the safety of our entrants, as there are no lights backstage and they have to navigate stairs.

This year, after consulting with the tech crew, they've given the go-ahead for entries to decide if they want blackout before and/or at the end of their skits (due to the fact that we'll have LEDs backstage for the stairs this year). You cannot have the lights go on and off in the middle - only the very beginning or the end. We'd also need details as to the lighting cues, especially if there's involvement with the MC. We'll have a form at the masquerade office for marking off your lighting choice when you register. Default is the usual dim before and dim after, so that's what you'll get if we don't have anything indicated otherwise.

Options for both start and end of the skit would be: dim (the usual), blackout (to "on"), and blackout with fade/fade to black.

I believe the masquerade is already being filmed, but I'll double-check. Please email us with your information, website, etc with examples of your work and we'll pass it on to the tech crew and the cosplay exec. Also include information as to if you have a media pass or badge for the convention already.

• I'm excited to hear about the LEDs backstage! Just a quick question / suggestion, can you glow tape center (CC) and the stairs, that way there is for sure a marker even if it is dark? (Though the tape will have to be "warmed" to be effective). Getting black outs this is awesome, thanks!

I'm not 100% sure what's allowed; the stage and all equipment is rented. But I'll pass this on to the tech crew (who may already have plans for such a thing, I'm not sure - it's their dept).

• Concerning the prizes... the Costume Con pass, if there are two members to the entry that wins, will two passes be given?

I don't know. That's a question best answered by Kaijugal or Sarcasm_hime, as they're major organizers/chairs of CostumeCon32 (Toronto 2014).

• No, only one pass will be given, or alternatively we could give a 50% discount to each of the two entrants.

Please note that the passes for prizes are non-transferable (i.e. you can't sell them).

• i've emailed twice about getting a media badge with no awnser.... yet...

as for examples of my work their is my youtube page http://www .youtube.com/user/BoulianneMartin
some Photo work i've been out of photography for almost 15 years... http://www .pbase.com/martin_boulianne
but that is just som for fun vids.. all of my profesional work belongs to the Tv stations i work for...if you need references....no problem.

i do have access to HD cameras. video switcher, HD recorder..etc
i am alone at AN this year. i can still set up and operate the system by my self.

But most of the filming is for my documentary..

if you can refer me to the person responsible for Media access i vould be grateful.

I doubt we'd win, but if we did and only one pass was given and the passes were a LOT of money, I'd be more likely to just throw it out if I can't find someone to go with since I couldn't even give it to someone who wanted to go... the offer of 50% off a pass each would be more likely to be useful, but that depends on how much passes ARE XP I haven't done a lot of research into Costume Con since I don't expect to win and I don't think I'd be interested in going outside of winning a ticket, but I'm sure others will have this question as well XP
