Gundam Deathscythe Hell: LED Scythe Blades

This thread is archived.

  • Well, Deathscythe WAS my first choice for my Gundam costume, but I figured I didn't have the skills to pull it off yet, though I did plan out the scythe part. For my construction, I intended to have the same PVC piping, with the blade actually made out of white nylon/parachute fabric and a green wrapped light I had salvaged from a nearly broken camplight. The blade would have been cut into the proper shape and the far tip anchored to the shaft with fishing line while the light was hidden in the shaft at the base of the blade. Granted, I didn't DO this design, and I'm not sure how well it might have worked, but a couple of my more construction minded friends felt the design was sound. Depending on how big a diameter pipe you were using, I had some vague intention to get a small motor and wind up the anchor line to let the blade "deploy" on command. Although looking at that now, I know that part was (and is) beyond my skill, so it might be up to your skill level.

  • theres a couple ways to do energy blades

1, use translucent acrylic, and edge light (check tutorials on instructables for led signs)

2 use thin light fabric, like above post,(look into threads about creating flame effects using fabric)
use uv reactive paints (thin out if needed) and have or build in a uv/black light
although this dont show well in most lighting situations
so youd need to find dark corners for photos or showing off

if the pvc pipe is too wobly, get a fiberglass rod/driveway marker
and hot glue or epoxy it to the inside
(just gluing the ends should work fine no need to glue the whole lenght)

or just skip the blades, and if people say something you can tell them a powerplant
is too big or heavy, or the event staff wernt keen on the plazma lamp "blade" idea
(the kind that looks like a colourfull flaming torch (not torch as in a flashlight))
