MGS4 Raiden WIP

This thread is archived.

  • For the last two months I've been slowly piecing together a Raiden costume for Halloween and my 1st cosplay, but with less than 30 days left I feel like I've been running out of time :eeek: I admit some of the techniques I've been using have been incredibly time consuming (and expensive), but I'm just a perfectionist like that. Anyways, I thought I would share with you all what I've been doing so far and what I hope to do. =)

So far I've created the entire mask in a 3d program called MilkShape then converted that 3d model into printable format using another program called Pepakura. I've also created other peripherals of Raiden from Milkshape to Pepakura as well; which in include his shoulder/chest/back protectors etc. as well as other minor details like the spinal chord, which are not pictured yet.

I still have quite a ways to go before the mask will be done. So far I've applied fiber glass resin to the pieces I've constructed. The next step I'll be slush casting Rondo on to the pieces. For the plastic face shield I'll be making a mold out of bondo so that I can vac form PETG plastic over it. This is also the same process I'll be using to make Raiden's shoulder, chest, back and all the other plastic attachments he has.

For the body suit I plan to use a full-body spandex suit similar to what other Raiden cosplayers have done, except I'll be adding foam 'muscles' and then painting over the entire suit with liquid latex. As of now I'm having a friend make zipper modifications to the suit, but once I get the suit back and the liquid latex from monster makers I'll update my progress again =)

If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. This is my first time ever doing anything like this and I definitely remember having a billion questions when I first started this project. =)

  • So I been frantically working to get the final details on to the suit before I start covering it with Latex. The picture below is what I've done so far on the body suit, I've added foam muscles and covered them with hemp thread and the white coating is Flexbond on the thigh muscles and the thigh plates (off to the right of the suit).

I've also got the helmet parts covered with Rondo, I just have to start sanding them down and carving in the details. I haven't had a chance to upload any pics yet, hopefully I'll have more up soon.

  • I love it, awesome job so far! :)

As much as I don't have a problem sharing the files; I am in the process of remaking them. The more I learn about Pepakura the more I realize the files are not Pep friendly, making construction way more difficult than it needs to be. Once I've completed the mask I'll be sharing the files.

  • could you please post the paperkraft tiles
