Ace Attorney 5 Confirmed!

  • I'm at work, so no link, but it's at all the usual suspects!

Yay! Except we probably won't get it here because Capcom hates us. Yay though!

I wonder who it will star though? Phoenix? Apollo? Or someone different entirely?

  • I'm hoping Phoenix, unless they give Apollo a personality. But think about it, Apollo was supposed to be a way to reboot the series in hopes of introducing new players to the series. But look what's happened since then: Phoenix went on to star in a movie, a fighting game, and a spin-off with Professor Layton. Not to mention also that we've had two games taking place before Apollo's game starring Miles Edgeworth and some of the original characters from the first three games. Which do you think is drawing in new players: one game or a movie, fighting game, spin-off game, and the two Edgeworth spin-offs? Phoenix Wright (the character) is relevant again.

I'm wondering if this will feature exploration mechanics like Miles Edgeworth? Also, the sequel to 999 will have 3D models, I'm curious if Capcom will ever try that for Ace Attorney.

  • I'd hope for a game like Miles Edgeworth in terms of being able to move around with your character visible and stuff. Not gunna lie, that TOTALLY is what made that game worthwhile ( bought it on release date )

  • AA5 better get released stateside! I'm still annoyed we're not getting AAI2 over here, despite how the last case drags on.

Does the last case in AAI2 drag on? I almost gave up on the last case of the first AAI. I know they were trying to do a big twist, but it didn't seem as well executed as Justice For All case 4 or Trials and Tribulations case 5. It's like... okay, I know who the murderer is, can we just bust him and get it over with?

So, regarding AA5, I think I've figured out what I want. I think if they continue on with Phoenix it'll just be more of the same and get repetitive. But Apollo felt more distant from everyone else, like he existed in some kind of weird alternate dimension. But why Sao these characters have to be separate? What if we start out as Apollo, do a few cases, and work to clear Nick's name? Then we finish the game as Phoenix, maybe doing two cases as him. Like maybe three cases as Apollo and two as Phoenix?

  • I would have liked AAAJ more if they had more cameos of older characters. It was criminal of them to have Emma and no one else, especially with no explanation for why Phoenix was totally different (and all the weird revelations about the story at the end that I won't spoil). No Edgeworth, Gumshoe, Maya, Pearl, Larry, or that woman he met from the end of AA3? Made me sad.

I enjoyed the Perception mechanic more than the Magatama thing since for some reason I found it more believable than voodoo locks, but at the same time I didn't like it because if you point out someone's nervous tic or whatever they do that isn't necessarily gonna get them saying "Oh well yea I'm nervous guess I'd better tell you something". I also liked examing the whole room in 3D for reenacting stuff. My dream game would have both the investigation for some cases and then courtroom for others. Miles Edgeworth had the best crazy character reactions though. The medal guy and the giggling woman (I forget the names) were hilarious.

  • The perceive system was more realistic, but I didn't like how to had to stop on each statement and look around the person's entire body to see if they're sweating, twitching, sniffling, etc. It took WAY too long and some of them were kind of hard to find.
