Tifa Skirt?

  • Hey I need help on what fabric to use..I'm trying for something along the lines of this cosplayer:

But I don't know exactly what she used..I mean I know it's a pleater or vinyl of some kind, but would I get a stretch vinyl or a non (as in which would look better) and I don't know the difference between vinyls..I know there's "PVC" and "4-way Stretch" vinyls and stuff, but what would you guys suggest?

Also, what about the suspenders? Normal outfit tifa has weird ones..Like they have that upside down Y shape that I can't find anywhere..

    Thanks

  • Bump? Any help? Pretty easy question, I think.

  • Org XIII uses something called "leather-look garment vinyl from SY Fabrics" for their coats. Maybe you could ask them for specifics? Whatever material it is that they use, their coats look fantastic.

  • Yea? Didn't even think of that..lol I think My coat is made of the same stuff (been a little while since I talked about the fabric with the commissioner lol)..I just didn't know if it was what to use..I know it doesn't stretch that much and I was thinking making a skirt out of stretchier stuff would make it so I can eliminate using a zipper..

  • If you would like to eliminate the zipper, then using stretchyer material would be good. But if the stretch material isn't stretchy enough, try using an invisible zipper. and run it along the seams in the back, if its a 4 panel skirt. I think that the stretchy material would be better for this type of skirt. I made a lightning cosplay not too long ago, and the skirt wasn't stretchy enough. I need to find something stretchier.

Also for the suspenders, I would try to find the clips at a joanns, or a micheals. Find 4 small suspender clips. From there figure out how they work and add on a cording for the loop this cord should be able to stay up on its own. The suspenders on that cosplayer, the loop seems to be threaded thru the bottom of the suspenders. If not possible for your suspenders. I would add a belt loop-like piece of fabric on the back side of the suspenders, and gorrilla glue them on, or sew them, if you have a good sewing machine. DO NOT USE HOT GLUE. I've used it plenty of times and on slippery fabrics, it just comes off.

Sorry for such a long post. I just hope I helped.

  • Thanks for the reply there.
I was planning on only making one seam if possible..Like using a rectangle of fabric and wrapping it around and seewing the thing together on one side..So....I'm guessing what you mean by 4 panel skirt, would be 2 seams at the sides, and one on the front and one in back corrct? That's not what I want..She doesn't have seams in the front and back so I'd like to not do that..She also doesn't have a zipper in the back which is why I don't want one lol

And I didn't know they sold those clips....That's a good plan I will try that for the suspenders thanks
