Cardinal Sforza Wig

  • I'm about to start creating the insanely awesome costume for Caterina for myself and have pretty much everything down on what to do (I'm cool with planning anything fabric since I do my own costumes, my friends, and commissions) except the wig. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about making that monstrosity of blonde curls? I want it to look believable yet accurate. I don't want to have such giant curls I get lost in them, but I I don't want to go with tiny spiral curls either. I have until the end of May to get this done, so I have some time to really work on it if anyone has pointers on it.

  • Ah, the wig. My first question is which version are you doing? The anime long ropey curls? The manga with the Four Curls of the Appocolypse, or the Art book Curls that Eat your Head?

    I've gone both 'believable' and 'well mostly accurate' and there's a lot of options. For the most 'realistic' you can find some really good spiral curled wigs online that you need only style bangs/fronts pieces into. If you want the long, contiguous curls...you're going to have to pick your method of insanity. And that will depend on which version you're doing.

    After making, and hating my 'accurate' wig three times I spoke with some fairly well known wig makers/designers and they all agreed that to do the 'accurate' one you will need a LOT of wig fiber, a lot of foam core, and a lot of patience to assemble them all together. I add that you will need a LOT of hair pins and a LOT of tylenol, no matter how well made this will weigh a bit more than you'd like.

    Once I know which you're doing I can run through the suggestions for that sort, so I apologize for being a bit vague at this point.

  • I know that The Five Wits has one...but I'm not sure what version you're going for so I can't say how well it'd work for you ^^;

  • Thanks both of you for responding! That wig does look pretty nice TeaForThought.

    As for what version I'm doing, I'm going more for the Thores artwork, but am also using a bit of the Kiyo Kyujyo art. So I guess I'm going for a bit of a hybrid. I just want something that won't look like I'm lost in a sea of giant head eating curls. And just for the record, I'm thinking of going with the Kyujyo version that is minus the hat. I'm not a huge fan of the hat, even though I will probably eventually make it, but it's not the top of my list at the moment. I want to have her outfit really well done before I bother with the hat.

  • Hi,

    btw I'm selling wig which was bought for Catherina Sforza cosplay :P http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?p=4568536#post4568536

    I planned to cosplay her, but I changed my plans == The wig wasn't worn, it's new~ and it's really LONG.

    And i forgot - I have 2 of those wigs for sell, because I planned to make one extra thick with them, so if you're interested you can buy two ^^"

  • Oh wow, that wig is gorgeous! It's the perfect mix of giant curls without being too big. I might have to get it from you and save myself the headache. I'm great with fabric, not so great with wigs!

  • If you decide to make your own lemme know and I can walk you through some ideas :)

  • I'm always willing to listen to ideas just in case I do buy the wig off of Dream Hunter and still want to add some extra into it. You can never go wrong with too many ways to make sure it's awesome (especially since if it turns out the way I see it in my head it will be a competition costume).
