Jubilee

This thread is archived.

  • I'm trying to do a Jubilee cosplay for Otakon after marathoning X-Men: The Animated Series and wasting over $50 in comic books over the past couple of weeks. I'm still mostly planning this out and gathering ideas for how to get this done.

I've found some sunglasses on Amazon with pink lenses that I can just paint so the frames will be neon pink as well. It's easy to get shorts and the top at any store.

I want to make the jacket out of some sort of thick cotton, maybe a twill, canvas or denim. I have a black jacket that's the right sort of fabric and weight that I want so I'm basically just going to go to the fabric store and find something similar in either yellow or white that I can dye. Does anyone have any pattern suggestions? I really like this one but if there's a better one out there, I'm game.

My biggest question is for the accessories.

For the gloves, they're definitely going to be fingerless but I'm not sure if I want to go with motorcycle style gloves or normal gloves. I know there's a pattern on the big tutorial thread here on how to make gloves which I can probably just use and lob the fingers off of. But if I go the motorcycle route (which I'm really liking for this), I'm unsure if it'll be worth it to make or how exactly to make them. This is all assuming that I don't find any gloves. I plan on going out to try and thrift some. And maybe some sunglasses with pink lenses while I'm at it.

For the jewelry, I'll probably make the pendant with sculpey. But the earrings are leaving me stumped. I'd also make them with sculpey but I don't want them to be too heavy or bulky. My first thought was to get or make something like this (and cut off the extra bits) and attach something to make the bar going across the diameter. If I do that, what could I use? Hopefully I'll find something at the craft store that I could attach with either super glue or E6000 that will match or that I could just color so it'll all look cohesive but a back up plan would be nice.

For the record, I'd rather buy things available to me rather than ordering them online.

FINALLY! If anyone has any reference pictures, I'd really appreciate this. I'm mostly doing the 90's costume with a few minor edits to bring modernize it, kind of like the Nation X cover. But I've barely been able to find any good ones that aren't of her in the black track jacket ensemble.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • 90s cartoon Jubilee is the best Jubilee. \o/

For the earrings, I would probably just go to Wal-Mart/Target and buy a pair of cheap gold hoops for the base. I got a huge pair (too big for Jubes, but) for my Miss America cosplay for ~$5. You could easily hot-glue something onto them for the cross-bar. Try your local fabric/craft store (Joanns, Hancock, etc.) You might be able to find a slim gold-toned chain and use a piece of that, if you stretch it tight enough. That would be very light.

  • I'm baaaaack. I figured just to post in the thread I already made for Jubilee. I ended up finding earrings that pretty matched the ones in this picture.

The lenses actually were originally pink. I'm trying to make them more saturated and so far I've tried the RIT dye method and it didn't work at all. So if anyone has any suggestions short of coloring them in with a sharpie, that would be awesome.

My biggest problem is that with the poofiness that is Arda's Jaguar (which is the wig I'm using), and all of my thick hair that's shoved underneath, the sunglasses are sort of stretching I guess? Is there a way to get them to not break? Also, I'm trying to think of a good way to keep them up on my head without falling. Again, with the volume of my hair and wig, the sides aren't long enough to hook onto my ears and it takes a lot of finagling to get them to stay. I think right now I have them hooked onto the wefts but it's hard to get to that point. I was thinking sewing some loops into the wig? But what should I use that would blend in with the wig?
