Help with Raiden (MGS4)

This thread is archived.

  • Hello everyone

First off i'm sorry yet again I'll be joining the craze to make Raiden's awesome outfit from MGS4
but I'm very indecisive about what material to use to make the chin pieces of the mask.

I though of making somewhat of a base in metal and cover with Fimo paste (polymer) and then put in the oven to harden.

To make the visor I'm probably gonna buy a polycarbonated sheet of about 2mm thick and heat bend it with a heat gun.

My goal is to only do the visor and make the suit (only) after the helmet is done. I f I have no time to make the suit i'll just put the optional funeral outfit snakes can wear during the game.

So any advice about the material or production is very welcome
Thank you very much and have a nice day !

  • Hey, I am also contemplating making the Raiden helmet! I have looked through that entire blog, and I am working on translating it (I am a Japanese language student)

I am a complete noob when it comes to props so I'd like to hear your ideas too on materials. Once I get Omi's blog translated though it'll be easier to decide (though a lot of her image links are broken, I need to ask her about that)

I'll keep you posted about translated articles! And if you happened to save any of the broken images if you could share them...!!

  • I plan on making a Raiden mask soon, so if I get ahead on it I will post up some pictures and most likely a mini-tutorial as well. But until then, you will definitely need a cast of your own head to even begin building Raiden's mask. You can build and fit the pieces onto your own head, but it will be quite difficult. So if you have a friend, ask them to help do a cast of your head, which is a relatively simple simple process. All you would need to do is to build up many layers using plaster-bandages. Nevertheless, it would only cost about $20-30 (or less) to make a single durable cast out of plaster-bandages. Of course, the cast would be ever so slightly thicker than that of your own head shape by about a centimeter, but that's still better than building a mask from scratch without a base to work from. But that's it for now -- let's just say plastic and putty are yours and Raiden's friends. ;)

**edit** I do apologizing if this is bumping up an old thread, but I'm merely posting for reference purposes in the hopes of limiting the thread build up of already existed topics.
