So there are a number of different games that we could play, but I am thinking of just doing "Regulation Dodgeball" which is the same game they play in the Dodgeball movie. Basically we will split up into two teams, if you get hit by a dodgeball then you will have to go sit on the sidelines. If someone catches a ball that you throw then you are out and the catcher gets to bring one of their players back in. If your team gets all the players on the other team out then your team wins.

Some safety issues that I want to address. We use balls that are specifically designed for dodgeball that are made out of foam with a skin on them. They might hurt a little bit if you hit someone as hard as you canon bare skin, but nothing that won't go away pretty quickly. Headshots are not allowed, if you hit someone in the head they will not be out. If it is determined that someone it purposefully aiming at people's heads they will be removed from the game and will not be permitted to play any more. If you hit someone in the head on accident please try to make sure you let them know it was an accident to ensure that there are no hard feelings. Also keep in mind that we will hopefully have some spectators that will be hanging out, and would appreciate it if you kept your throws under control so they didn't get hit.

We should be able to get in several games and we will mix up the teams between each game to keep things interesting. There is no prize if your team wins other than bragging rights, I want this to just be a fun game that will not become overly competitive.

Also if you have fun with it I encourage you to come to the gathering I am planning in July. Here is a link to the forum for that event.

Fanime will be taking group pictures during the Gathering/Event this year. If you do not want to be included in those pictures please step aside for those photos. By remaining with the group when the pictures are being taken you give your consent to be photographed.

I really can't imagine this would be a good idea anywhere but in a specific enclosed space. You're going to get stray balls hitting cosplayers and other attendees that aren't participating. Asking for a panel room or something would be a better idea, don't you think?

I dent a message to BSaphire and she recommended this location since it is tucked back a bit out of the way where few people go unless it is for a gathering or photoshoot. I have tried to make it clear that there would be a risk of those watching and plan on making an announcement prior to starting the games. I am unsure of how I could get a panel room, and have a feeling that being indoors would actually increase the chance of damage done to the facility. The safety of everyone and everything in the area is the top concern I have for this event and I will call it to an end if I feel that it is getting out of hand.
...The safety of everyone and everything in the area is the top concern I have for this event...
If that were true you wouldn't be doing this.

A game with a dozen or more hyperactive kids-at-heart running around tossing objects at each other get out of hand? I seriously doubt that.

I'll show up, just to see who gets escorted off the premises first.

I am sorry if you have concerns about this event. I would like to reassure you that I do this for a living. We use specialized balls and all players will be playing on a voluntary basis. On at least a weekly I play dodgeball with kids ranging from age six to about fourteen and we have never had an injury worse than a bump. I have also done a cosplay dodgeball event in the past. Here are some pictures from the event to show that everyone was having fun and there were no problems. I have faith that the cosplayers who decide to play will be respectful and play the game just for fun.

If people are not interested in the event I would prefer that they not come and heckle us, or try to cause problems for those of us who just want to have fun. I hope that those who are not interested in this event can simply enjoy the many other events happening at the same time in this con.

Have fun,

Wait, you play dodgeball for a living?

I've been to HappyHeretic's events before, all of them have been safe and fun. He's had people attend from teenagers to the young at heart. Everyone that has attended has been wonderful and polite. The safety issues shouldn't be an issue really the dodgeballs are very squishy and do no harm. I also know since he works at a community center he can handle this maturely and can handle the group.
