Sakura Kinomoto Costume help!

• Hi All!
So, even though Otakon 2011 is around the corner I am already planning for Otakon 2012. So I decided that next year i really would like to be Sakura. I originally wanted to cosplay in Sakura's Drama outfit from the Carcaptors Movie 2: The sealed Card

But then I was going through the Cardcaptor's Art books and found these two outfits:
Ref 1:

Ref 2:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j273/babsygurl1516/036.jpg

I love both of these outfits. But the pictures I have only show so little of them. Does anyone know if there are better pictures out there of these two outfits?

What outfit do you think would be better to do?

Please and Thank you everyone!:toothy:

• unfortunately no. most of the artbook images were made specifically for that art book. CLAMP loves to do that

• For this outfit:

Well, it looks like the top and skirt are separate pieces. There aren't any sleeves. Its like a tank top with a turtleneck collar. Unlike Tomoyo's, Sakura's top isn't separated at the front. If it were me making the outfit, I would put an invisible zipper on the back of the top.ARgh. If I drew a picture, maybe it would help. The length of the skirt is a little shorter at front and the back seems like it would fall at the knee length. The bow kind of stands up and has that wing effect. (what is it with CLAMP and wings and feathers?) The trim of the bow is long and curved. I would also have the bow separated and make it where you could just clip it to the back of the skirt. If I were you, I would just do a regular hem and then go over it with blue thread and set your sewing machine to one of those special stitch design. I don't remember what the special stitch is called...
I hope I've helped in some way.

• i just did a chii dress similar to Referance 1, the sleeveless dress. as Crazywazhere said a tank top like design could work, with a invisible zipper. there are patterns that are similar to her dress design you just need to look and the top will need to be alltered. i dont know your sewing level but for my dress i used satin, and the top was about 5 pieces with interfacing and lining as well. for my dress i did it in two pieces and the huge bow was attatched with two snaps, however the heavy bow wanted to pull the skirt down, so i suggest doing it as a single dress instead of top and skirt if you can. i wouldnt worry about the trim of the bow being curved, it would look fine just draping over the skirt. this dress will take a good amount of time to get the details right but it could look very good. (oh and look under the tutorial list for a great bow tutorial if you need help)

As for the movie dress, it looks like it could be simple, not too much detail is put into animated outfits. the piece of fabric for the bottom of the dress will have to be cut to get the short front and long back, to get it to look like it poofs out you will need to make a good petticoat to go under the dress.

and Ref 2 is pretty but like benihime said, its just a one time artbook deal. you would have to make the rest of the dress up which could be difficult to make it all look right and flow together.

good luck

• I would try for either the movie costume or reference 1, agreeing with what the others said about ref 2. For the movie costume it would be simple to find a wavy pink skirt and cut and sew it up to the correct length for where you want the centered high part of the dress. The top you could sew out of a similar material to the skirt and create the poofed sleeves by sewing cup shapes. I know someone who found an old victorian looking costume and took the top from it and died it pink. Im not sure if that could work for you, but either way you are looking at some delicate sewing.
