The New England Anime Society, parent organization of Anime Boston, will once again be screening anime at this year's First Night Boston festivities. The anime screenings will be held from 1pm until 11pm (with a break around dinner time) at the Hynes Convention Center.

To attend the anime screenings, you will need a First Night Boston 2007 button. They are available for $15 at stores near you or online at http://www.firstnight.org/ The buttons will get you into ALL (200+) First Night Boston events!

More information about the anime screenings will be online soon (definitely before Thanksgiving weekend is over) at:

If you've been to anime at First Night before, come on back! After we screen a DVD, we'll give it away to a lucky audience member. ...and one of the giveaways will be cosplay-related! (More on that later...after the screening schedule is posted.) We're also working on some other stuff to mix things up a bit.

As usual, Anime Boston staff will also be on hand to answer questions about the convention and to take pre-registrations before the rate goes up. (It's $40 through December 31st!)

So is it like an anime thing or a little diff.

First night is a New Years celebration that happens in Boston (It's been about 30 years now, 31 to be exact) There's all sorts of events, especially at the Hynes, which is where NEAS will be showing their films. But there are other things as well, many of it kid-friendly. What the $15 dollars gets you is a button which allows access to any of the indoor activities. (The ice sculptures and stuff is outside and free) The biggest event is the parade which happens from about 5:30 to 7. (People can actually be in the parade, just show up in front of the Hynes at about 2:30-3:00. I'd love to be able to see some cosplayers in there)

I will be dressing up (As what, I don't know quite yet) but I will also be working. I will be doing face painting in one of the larger rooms on the second floor of the Hynes. (So I won't be able to see much anime till about 6:00)

I don't remember alot of people cosplaying last year (twas cold).
Although, I might cosplay for this one if I can manage to make something warm and durable before then xD;;
But Woot! Cosplay related prize? That's enough motivation for this one to go!

Anyone knows if they'll be showing any subbed anime this year? ^_^

After the FMA screening, the best FMA costume will win the DVD. We may give out another DVD to the best costume in the audience after a different screening, but that partly depends on if there are any costumes in the audience at the time. :)

Not all the DVDs will be given out to best costume.

No subs, sorry. I enjoy both dubs and subtitled anime, but the First Night crowd is clearly not the typical anime crowd and generally speaking, they're not the type that would go see subtitled films at an artsy movie theater. Also, First Night asked us to keep the screenings attractive to a younger audience. Plus, we're not in charge of setting up the screen...so we don't want to arrive and discover that it's too low to read subtitles in a crowded room.

There's something else I'm hoping to have ready for First Night, but it will be a while before I know if that will happen or not.

Wow, I was worried about the cosplaying in general and you guys already worked out a prize for a specific anime ^_^
So alot of cosplayers this year are to be expected?

dragulinainvers: There's nothing like counthing down the New Years with a bunch of anime friends, so I hope you can make it- wait, *looks at schedule* we get kicked out before New Years o_o;;

Honestly? I don't know. I can probably count the number cosplayers from the past three years on one hand...but this is the first time we're doing anything remotely cosplay-related. I suspect that will encourage people to get dressed up.

...although there are usually people wearing silly "Happy New Year" hats and other "festive" New Year's costumes anyway. They're just not anime-related.

Yeah, First Night has their big fireworks display and countdown at midnight...so they shut us down at 11pm. You can still count down to midnight with anime friends, just not in the screening room. (The first year, I even managed to pack up and be HOME by midnight. After that, I've just put the stuff in the car and then went out with friends.)

I'll be coming in costume again this year ^_^
I'll probably go in a comfy costume since it was pretty cold last year :heart:

God, how ignorant am I to not notice all this! I didn't think Boston was so big on cosplay but I see all these other threads about dances and parties and all that in Beantown.

#11 sephygoth on 12 years ago

I'm def there, as always, round 4 here we go ^^

#12 Eilonnwy on 12 years ago

I won't be there, alas I already agreed to go to a party that night at a friends house. As much as I would like to go, I can't take the crowds, they make me anxious.

#13 rei_hino on 11 years ago

I've never gone before! I definitely wanna go though XD

#14 xxxh0lic on 11 years ago

I think I'll be going.
Dont know yet.

#15 Mesoian on 11 years ago

I'll be there. Hopefully the trains won't be so crowded this year
