did ya get vidya gaemz 4 Xmas?!

This thread is archived.

  • The unofficial "what I got for xmas as long as it's video game related" thread topic for discussion.

  • Naw, I'm at the age where getting a rice cooker is way more exciting than getting video games.

I got a bunch of live points though.

  • There's only one game I want, and it's waaaaaay too overpriced right now. Waiting for the price to finally drop on it before I'll buy it.

  • Games have been $60 for about six years, what costs more than that?!

    SWTOR

  • Weird, since SWTOR cost me about 60 bucks.

I remember PS1 games costing 80 bucks, Vandal Hearts 2 was one.

I never pay more than $30 for a game.

    This.

I mostly got practical stuff and a couple Gamestop gift cards.

I never saw a ps1 game past msrp until they started being considered vintage.

As far as not wanting to pay what a game is worth... I had a huge sermon here but I'll boil it down to the short and sweet. The best games worth playing take a really long time to go down in price, and some never do. It really sounds like you should just use Gamefly, unless there's only one game per year that you like.

If you like to own your games, do what I do. I only ever buy three or so games per year, and I typically wait for a month-later $10 off sale or use my friend's employee discount when a used one gets traded in (I'm still amazed how quickly good games get traded back). A used version with my friend's discount is in the market of $45 or so after tax, which is cheap enough to make me want to buy it instead of waiting a year and only finding beat-up copies.

Incidentally, anyone who hasn't tried 3d Dot Game heroes should note it's under $15 now. It didn't sell well because it didn't star a melodramatic muscle maniac with a huge gun, and it didn't feature a CODMW-style multiplayer, so sometimes a good game DOES drop in price. But then again, this game is getting pretty old by the current saturated market's standards.

But anyway, this topic is about what we got game-related for Christmas, and not about paying for them.

  • I use simple math: 1 dollar = 1 hour.

If you plaid 80 bucks for a game that you have spent 200 hours on, good for you. If you spent 30 minutes on a game that cost 10 dollars, shitty deals.

Doesn't matter what the price is, it's how much you get out of the game.

You can't complain about free though.

  • Biggest ones I got were Skyrim, Uncharted 3, and Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection. I'm quite happy!

I got a good amount of practical stuff too, like a stock pot we so desperately needed in the kitchen, but man... When I was younger, I didn't really get as many video games for the holidays/my birthday except for from my dad. So getting a lot now makes me really excited, just as much as getting stuff I really needed!

  • I sort of got a game for Christmas. I bought Skyward Sword for my son but he's busy playing SWTOR and I would feel like a dick for playing it before he did if I gave it to him as a gift. So I got him a year's subscription to SWTOR instead and kept Skyward Sword for myself. (: But wait! There's more! Over a year ago I bought a Motion Plus thinking, "Well, I'll need it eventually." Now that I finally need it - I can't find it! D:< So I didn't get to play it yesterday. :blubber: I'm not sure that I even want to brave any of the stores today - they'll probably be full of people spending their Christmas money and trying to exchange stuff.

  • I got a GS gift card, a Kinect, a deluxe copy of Skyward Sword, and Mass Effect 2 for the PC which is god tier. Oh and the wife made me a blazer made of 8-bit fabric for MAGfest/nerd parties. BALLER TIME!

Aside from that, mostly clothes, comics and disappointment from the in-laws.

  • So it seems that in all the travelling, my copy of SSX3 is missing, which is supremely not cool.

I'll use one of my gift cards to go pick up another copy I guess.

  • I got Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, but that was it :(
