Figured I would make this since the two main hotels are already full! Most hotels are not offering convention rates for 2014 yet. The AN website will likely become useful once they start up, but for now here is some info:

On bed bugs: When you enter your hotel room, do not just drop your suitcases on the ground or on the bed, find the luggage rack and use that - then do a search. Under the sheets and in the rolled up corners of a mattress is the first place to look. They are small (size of an apple seed), but sometimes not that small. After getting blood in them, they are easier to spot. They usually will stay in the upper half of the bed where the head lies. Next place to look is to pick up the mattress and look at the box spring. Bed bugs love wood and hiding in the crevices of wood. So the bottom of the box spring is the best place to find them. Use a flash light to look around. Finally, behind the headboard (which is usually wood). If you don't find any here, you should be in good shape. For the most part you are looking for infestations. If you see any black residue in large sections, this could be a sign.
If you ever find blood stains on a pillowcase or sheets, this is a sign they came and got you. Start looking.
The last thing you want is bed bugs - all your hard work on cosplays can be ruined as these bastards can take a trip back home with you.

someone on the fb group said that the holiday inn East was taking reservations now

I booked with holiday inn east. They are offering a con rate of $140 (that's what I got).

Also you can book with Mariott Residence Inn right now, but they aren't offering con rate. However they say you can call back and change your reservation when con rate is released (just in case you're worried about not having a hotel at all)

Booo... I just booked online at the Holiday Inn East, but they only offered the rate higher at that. Oh well...

I booked with Crown Plaza this morning online, but it wasn't with a con rate. Though if this year's rates are anything to go buy, it's actually cheaper without it. If it turns out it's cheaper when the rates are out, I'll call and change it, but for now I'm quite happy ^^

I booked in the DoubleTree but I chose not to mention AN just the dates

#7 Grimmjow99 on 5 years ago

i booked a room at the raddison and the DT I mentioned it was for AN but they gave me a cheaper rate for $99/night. Not that i'm complaining.

Holiday Inn never asked me for a deposit - just a credit card, i just booked a room just like at the Rad.

#10 Chipface on 5 years ago

The only hotel around there that asked for a deposit was the Doubletree last year(at least for me). Unless clearly stated, you won't get charged until checkout.

Also I booked a room at the Sheraton and I mentioned AN. Just got 2 double beds. I said 2 people for now and it was $149. I think the guy on the phone said it doesn't affect the rate but that could be just having two people.

Hmm... I wonder if it's possible to call the Holiday Inn and see if I can get the con rate after booking at the regular rate....

This doesn't sound like it's for Anime North? This sounds like you get a deal for booking and paying in advance. What did they say when you called them and asked to book a room under the AN group rate?

#14 seiryuux on 5 years ago

Ok, tried to double check the rates at Holiday Inn Toronto Airport East just now. They tell me it's already sold out for the weekend so they can't check. Wow....

#15 DireKitty on 5 years ago

Holiday Inn is indeed booking. Make sure you have the right Holiday Inn as there are two on Dixon and the one farther away from the con doesn't have an AN block (yet?). You have to ask for the Anime North Group rate for that weekend as the entire hotel is in the AN block.
